HOUSTON, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: APC)
today announced results from the first seven wells in a delineation drilling
program in the Archer Field, located in Seward County, Kansas. The wells were
completed in the St. Louis formation at a depth of approximately 6,500 feet
and tested at a combined rate of 1,540 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and
1.1 million cubic feet of gas per day. Individual wells have tested as high
as 468 BOPD and encountered original reservoir pressure.
Since discovery of the Archer Field in 1985, Anadarko has produced nearly
500,000 barrels of oil from three wells. Using new 3-D seismic data, the
current drilling program, which began in late 1997, has identified a larger
extent to the St. Louis formation in the Archer Field. Historically more
prolific than other zones in the area, the St. Louis formation has also proven
more difficult to map. Advances in modern 3-D seismic technology have
increased the chances for exploratory success.
Anadarko has a 100-percent working interest in the Archer Field where two
Company-operated rigs are currently drilling and an additional five wells are
being completed. The Archer Field development is part of Anadarko's
aggressive exploitation program to develop oil and gas reserves below the
shallow producing zones in the Hugoton Embayment of southwest Kansas and the
Oklahoma panhandle. Over the past five years, Anadarko has acquired
480 square miles of 3-D seismic and completed more than 550 wells, adding
38 million energy equivalent barrels of reserves in this core area.
