Affordable, Easy-to-Install Networking Solution Paves Way for Broadband
Connectivity Required by New Generation of 'Connected' Consumer Electronics
E3, LOS ANGELES, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Coaxsys, Inc. a new provider of
home networking systems via common cable TV-style coax wiring, today announced
the launch of the company and its new headquarters in San Jose, California.
Coaxsys is exhibiting at E3, the premier gaming show, in Los Angeles from
May 14 - 16 in booth 6851 in Kentia Hall.
Coaxsys has developed Pure Speed(TM) -- a breakthrough, coax-based
solution that allows users with little or no technical know-how to install a
high-speed network in minutes and for substantially less money than other
high-speed networking solutions. When launched in early Q3 2003, Coaxsys will
deliver the industry's fastest home network solution with throughput rated at
100 mb/sec. The Pure Speed network will provide true 10 / 100 Ethernet over a
home's existing coaxial cable.
Existing home networks are often complicated to install and usually beyond
the technical level of most consumers. Category 5-based Ethernet, the
industry standard for company IT departments, requires a homeowner to
practically rewire the entire house. Many companies offer wireless solutions,
but they are often difficult to configure and limited in speed and distance.
Current home network products that utilize existing phone lines or electrical
infrastructures offer extremely limited bandwidth, and are inadequate for the
rapidly emerging class of multimedia network applications. Set up and
reliability is also a challenge for all non-Ethernet applications.
"Just about every new home built since the 1960s has been wired for cable
television, and the proliferation of home computers, multiplayer game consoles
and other 'connected' consumer electronics makes the existing coaxial cable
infrastructure a natural networking solution," said Michael D'Addio, President
and CEO of Coaxsys, Inc. "This is the perfect system for anyone wants to
enjoy the benefits of high-speed, next generation consumer electronics and
appliances -- without the spending the time and money to install Cat-5 cable.
Pure Speed is many times faster and more reliable than today's wireless,
telephone, or power-line networks. And as such, it is the perfect network
backbone to connect a home's wireless access points whose performance may be
degraded by walls or distance."
The consumer market is at the front-end of a boom in connected consumer
appliances, including PC-centric video servers, personal video recorders
(PVRs), Video on Demand, and multi-player Internet gaming using either a PC or
Microsoft's(R) XBOX LIVE(R) or Sony's PlayStation Online(R).
"Home networks are a must for today's connected consumer electronic
devices. Pure Speed allows consumers, gamers and computer users to create a
'connected home' with 100 mb/sec Ethernet performance, without the need for
complex wire installation," John Morelli, chairman and founder of Coaxsys,
Inc. "Pure Speed is affordable and easy to install, providing high quality,
fast and reliable connectivity without interfering with existing or future
cable TV services."
As of 1999 NCTA (National Cable Television Association) and Nielsen Media
research estimated that 96.6% of America's television homes are wired for
cable.
