SAN DIEGO, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Demonstrating its ability to deliver
customized solutions for the education market, Gateway, Inc. (NYSE: GTW) today
announces the Destination II PC/TV system and Gateway Astro XL all-in-one
desktop PC. Building upon these proven platforms for education clients,
Gateway delivers enhanced performance with the value-priced Gateway Astro XL
and maximizes classroom presentation capabilities with the Destination II
PC/TV.
"Education is not a one-size-fits-all market," said Dick Callahan, vice
president and general manager, education, Gateway Business. "Our education
customers' technology needs are often complex and unique, requiring a wide
range of solutions to help them accomplish their goals. Our value-based
Gateway Astro XL makes technology accessible to more students while the
Destination II presentation system helps engage them in the learning process."
Destination II Presentation System
Based on feedback from Gateway's education customers, the company
increased the Destination system's functionality while maximizing value. A
complete presentation solution for classrooms and computer labs, the
Destination II provides outstanding computing power, full TV and monitor
capabilities, and DVD-ROM video playback. The Destination II offers all the
components required for classroom presentations including the PC, a brilliant
32-inch (32-inch viewable area) television/monitor with built-in TV tuner, RF
wireless keyboard/mouse and stereo speakers. The versatile monitor allows
multiple resolutions, from 640 x 480 up to 1600 x 1200.
The Destination II is built upon the proven performance and stability of
Gateway's E-1400 series of desktop PCs, which supports all major Microsoft(R)
operating systems. The E-1400 chassis allows customers to customize the
system to meet their needs with five bays for options such as DVD-ROM, CD-RW,
floppy drives, SuperDisk(TM) LS-120 drives, Zip(R) drives and extra hard disk
drives. The system's standard connections allow customers to easily connect
additional presentation devices including VCRs, digital cameras and scanners.
Gateway continues to provide its award-winning service and support for all
three key components -- desktop, monitor and RF wireless keyboard and mouse.
Instead of dealing with multiple manufacturers for support, customers can make
one call to Gateway for all their support needs. The Destination II comes
standard with Gateway's three-year on-site warranty.
Gateway Astro XL All-in-One Desktop PC
The special Gateway Astro XL model is ideal for K-12 and higher education
customers for use in classrooms, computer labs and administrative offices.
Offering enhanced performance at a great value, the $899 Gateway Astro XL
provides a 500MHz Intel(R) Celeron(TM) processor, 64MB of SDRAM, 10GB hard
drive, integrated 10/100 Ethernet and vibrant 3D graphics. The Gateway Astro
XL also has a 15-inch (13.9-inch viewable area) monitor, V.90 modem, 24X
CD-ROM drive and diskette drive to deliver a complete, fully contained
solution.
The Gateway Astro XL's simple set-up and secure, compact design enable
universities and K-12 schools to save space and reduce costs. The system is
easy to deploy and network with plug-and-play setup and only four cords to
connect. Minimizing IT expenses, the closed chassis prevents users from
changing the system or losing accessible components.
The Gateway Astro PC's four Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports provide
maximum ease and flexibility for adding peripherals with automatic
configuration capabilities. The keyboard and mouse connect through one port,
leaving three ports open for other options such as digital cameras, printers
and scanners.
