Fred Meyer Promotes David Campisi to Senior Vice President Of the General Group

    PORTLAND, Ore., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Fred Meyer Stores announced today
the promotion of David J. Campisi to senior vice president of the General
Group, which includes the company's Apparel, Home Electronics, Home Hardlines,
and Home Fashion Divisions.  He reports to Sam Duncan, president of Fred Meyer
Stores.
    Campisi, 45, joined Fred Meyer in 1996 as vice president and merchandiser
of the Women's Ready-to-Wear Department.  A year later, he was promoted to
senior vice president of the Apparel Division.  Prior to joining Fred Meyer,
he was vice president and division merchandise manager for women's sportswear
at Meier & Frank, a Portland-based unit of May Department Stores.  Campisi is
a native of Omaha, Nebraska and has 24 years of department store experience.
    Fred Meyer has 127 multidepartment stores in five western states selling a
unique mix of food, apparel, and general merchandise under one roof.  It
employs more than 30,000 people in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho, and
Utah.  It is part of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), which is one of the nation's
largest food retailers, with stores stretching coast-to-coast in 31 states.
