HOUSTON, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: APC)
today announced the appointment of Mike Bridges to the newly created position
of chief engineer in the engineering and technology group. Bridges previously
served as the Permian division operations manager. John Applegath will
replace Bridges as the division operations manager of Anadarko's Permian
division.
Bridges will transfer from Midland to Anadarko's Houston headquarters and
will report to Mark Pease, vice president, engineering and technology. Over
the past three years, the Permian division successfully incorporated the
2,000 Ozona wells acquired during Anadarko's merger with Union Pacific
Resources (UPR) with Anadarko's existing 3,200 wells. More than 400 new wells
were drilled, and overall production increased from 14,000 barrels of oil
equivalent (BOE) per day in 1998 to today's current level of 28,000 BOE per
day.
"In his new role as chief engineer, Mike will be instrumental in
engineering resource planning, training and knowledge sharing throughout the
company. With 20 years' experience at Anadarko, he will be a strong asset in
the engineering and technology group," Pease said.
Based in Midland, Applegath will report to Rex Alman, vice president,
domestic operations. He will oversee the production and drilling of
Anadarko's Permian division as well as 165 employees.
"Earlier in his career, John worked in Midland and I'm very pleased to
have someone with his extensive oil industry knowledge returning as Anadarko's
operations manager in the Permian Basin. John's experience here and
internationally will help Anadarko strengthen one of its core areas," Alman
said.
Applegath joined UPR in 1979 and has worked in Corpus Christi, Houston and
Fort Worth, Texas. Most recently, he served in Guatemala City as president of
Basic Resources, a wholly owned subsidiary of Anadarko. Applegath brings
28 years of industry experience and a bachelor of science degree in chemical
engineering from the University of Houston to this position.
Bridges joined Anadarko's Midland office in 1981 after graduating from
Texas Tech University with a bachelor of science degree in petroleum
engineering. After working in both Houston and Oklahoma City, he returned to
Midland in 1998 as division operations manager.
