TROY, Mich., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Delphi Corp. is providing
significant exterior and interior technologies for what is being referred
to as the "best ever" all-new Ford Explorer SUV. The new Explorer will
include Delphi's Forewarn(R) Back-Up Aid, DVD rear seat entertainment
system and satellite radio receiver.

"Ford is a proven leader in safety innovation," said Beth Schwarting,
Delphi Electronics & Safety general director of Sales & Marketing. We are
very pleased that Ford chose Delphi for their back-up aid protection."
Delphi's Forewarn dual-beam radar back-up aid helps drivers avoid
back-up accidents by audibly alerting the driver of objects in the rear
vehicle path. These alerts -- beeps -- vary in intensity and rate to
indicate how close the driver is to an object. The Ford Explorer
radar-based back-up aid system has the longest rear-sensing detection range
available for passenger cars, up to 16.4 feet (5 meters). The larger
detection area effectively extends Back-up Aid's useful speed range -- from
parking speeds (generally less than 2 mph) to normal backing speeds (up to
7 mph). Also, with the larger detection area, Delphi's Back-up Aid helps to
give drivers more time to avoid impacts.
Delphi is also providing its increasingly popular OEM satellite radio
receiver for the "best ever" Explorer. Satellite radio has become one of
the fastest growing entertainment mediums in history. Delphi's integrated
system allows Explorer buyers to enjoy radio like they never have before
with crystal clear digital reception. Satellite radio allows listeners in
the new Explorer to receive more than 100 channels of coast-to-coast,
commercial free programming including news, sports, music, entertainment
and more.
Delphi's DVD rear seat entertainment system in the Ford Explorer offers
rear seat passengers "the best seat in the house" for watching movies and
playing video games. Delphi's factory-installed rear-seat entertainment
systems include features like DVD playback, CD playback, dual infrared
wireless headphones and audio/video inputs for any standard video game,
camcorder, VCR or other auxiliary devices.
Delphi's integrated units match car interiors and feature an 8-inch
wide- VGA, LCD color monitor, which offers a crisp and clearer picture. The
screen is flush-mounted with the headliner and flips down for use.
Rear-seat passengers use an infrared remote to operate the controls for the
system.
"We believe that Ford has chosen an awesome entertainment package that
will help excite vehicle customers and passengers about the new Ford
Explorer," said Ken Erickson, Delphi Integrated Media Systems business line
executive. "We believe it significantly increases the ride satisfaction of
rear-seat passengers and we are naturally very proud that it is made by
Delphi."
Delphi has been producing radios since 1936 and currently produces more
than 7 million OEM receivers per year and more than 270 million since its
inception. Delphi has also been first in a number of radio new technologies
including the first to install a radio in the instrument panel of a
vehicle, first push button mechanical radio, first successful signal
seeking radio, introduction of the favorite station version of signal
seeking radio, introduction of first completely transistorized radio, DVD
rear seat entertainment, electronic tuning, MP3 playbacks and first
factory-installed mobile satellite radio. For more information on Delphi
(Pink Sheets: DPHIQ), go to http://www.delphi.com .
Note: Satellite reception depends on the ability of the antenna to
receive a signal. The signal may not be available in buildings or if
obstructed (e.g. by mountains, trees, bridges, etc.)
Caution: Forewarn(R) products are designed to supplement other safety
practices by enhancing the driver's awareness of the environment in the
path of the vehicle. Responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle
remains with the driver.
