Company Delivers Significant Customer Savings with Products up to Three
Times More Efficient Than Competitive Offerings
CHICAGO, Storage Decisions, May 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brocade(R)
(Nasdaq: BRCD), the leader in networked storage solutions that help
enterprises connect and manage their information, today announced that it
will host a comparative power efficiency demonstration this week during
Storage Decisions, measuring the Brocade 48000 Director against the Cisco
MDS 9513 in a side-by-side operational comparison. Based on identical tests
performed in a similar environment, the Storage Decisions demonstration
will solidify the position of the Brocade 48000 as the industry-leading
director in terms of power and cooling efficiency, which contributes to
lower operational costs in enterprise data centers.
Rising energy costs make power efficiency in the data center a critical
consideration for server, storage, and networking equipment deployments.
Faced with increasing maintenance and operational costs, data center
managers now must plan for more efficient and scalable data center IT
environments. Additionally, they increasingly must account for
environmental concerns, such as rising carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions,
which have led organizations such as the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) to begin developing standards for data center power
consumption.
During the Storage Decisions demonstration, both the Brocade 48000 and
the Cisco MDS 9513 will be similarly configured for a direct comparison. In
recent independent comparisons between the two directors, it was determined
that the Brocade director was 2 to 3 times more efficient than alternative
products. The 2 to 3 times advantage of the Brocade 48000 provides
customers with significant direct cost savings for data center operations,
enables continued growth with available data center resources, and helps
reduce carbon footprint and environmental impact.
The Storage Decisions demonstration is further supported by the release
today of a Lab Validation Report from analyst firm The Enterprise Strategy
Group (ESG). In March 2007, ESG Lab performed a hands-on evaluation and
testing of Brocade 48000 power efficiency and Brocade Virtual Fabrics. The
tests revealed that consolidated Brocade 48000 Directors provide
significant savings in terms of power and cooling costs compared to the use
of physically isolated and under-utilized directors. ESG also determined
that "the power savings that can be realized with a Brocade 48000 are
magnified when used as a consolidation platform with Virtual Fabrics."
"Our Brocade SAN solution, which includes our use of Brocade 48000
directors, has provided a reliable way for us to maintain a quality level
of service for our customers," said Chad Smykay, storage engineer,
Rackspace Managed Hosting, a leading global provider of Web hosting
services. "Since the implementation, we have witnessed a 50 percent
decrease in total power consumption, which has significantly reduced the
operations and maintenance costs of our data centers. Knowing that we are
doing out part to contribute to the Green movement and a healthier
environment is a significant bonus."
"Brocade is dedicated to providing solutions that help in the
'greening' of the data center," said Tom Buiocchi, Brocade Vice President
of Worldwide Marketing. "The importance of power and cooling efficiency
cannot be underestimated in data center environments that continue to grow
due to increasing amounts of stored data. We designed the Brocade 48000
Director -- the most power-efficient SAN director in the industry -- with
those factors in mind, knowing that the green data center would be the data
center of the future."
The Brocade versus Cisco power demonstration will take place this week
at the Storage Decisions Conference being held May 15 to 19, 2007, at the
Hyatt Regency Chicago in the exhibit hall, Brocade booth #509. To access
