Compressus Announces Seattle Radiologists Interoperability Implementation

MEDxConnect(TM) System Enables Creation of Global Unified Worklist
Supporting Entire Enterprise Regardless of Location or System

SEATTLE, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Compressus, leaders in interoperability
of disparate healthcare IT systems, and Seattle Radiologists, APC, of
Seattle, announced today an agreement to implement a single Enterprise-wide
worklist solution, integrating digital imaging and data management systems.
The implementation, which will include eight SeaRad sites, was announced
here at 25th Annual Meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in
Medicine (SIIM), May 15-18, 2008.

Supporting eight sites in the Seattle and Puget Sound area with 36
board certified radiologists, the Seattle Radiologists implementation
involves the installation of a spectrum of MEDxConnect(TM) System
components designed to enable seamless integration of disparate information
systems and provide users the freedom to select best of breed PACS,
HIS/RIS, EMS and CIS tools, regardless of vendor.

"As one of the largest and oldest radiology services groups in the
Pacific Northwest, Seattle Radiologists prides itself on providing the
highest quality patient care with state of the art diagnostic equipment and
world-class radiologists. However, despite this investment, our patient
care, our productivity and the ability to expand our referral base are
continually hampered by the inefficiencies inherent to disparate healthcare
IT systems," said Thuan Nguyen, IT director for Seattle Radiologists.
"After a number of attempts to integrate disparate systems across our
service locations, we selected Compressus to create a comprehensive
solution to allow us to fully leverage our physicians' subspecialty
expertise and get the right images to the right physician regardless of
where they were generated or what system the physician is using."

According to Michael Peters, MD, president of Seattle Radiologists, the
ultimate goal was the creation of a global worklist common to all connected
users regardless of location or PACS. "Tied into all SeaRad sites, the
unified virtual worklist is designed to enable physicians to read from
anywhere within the Enterprise, automatically prefetch prior exams and
patient information, and efficiently transmit images and cases between
sites for consults or workload balancing. With the MEDxConnect
implementation, we expect to realize significant workflow improvements
resulting in faster and more accurate reports and better patient care."

The MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub, enabling various
PACS, HIS, RIS and other data information systems to connect and
communicate across the Enterprise. Utilizing HL7, DICOM, and other
standards, the System helps control the flow of images, reports, messages,
standard patient demographics and other important data for diagnosis and
treatment planning of a patient between otherwise independent and disparate
systems.

The integrated imaging and data management solution from Compressus is
designed to support a facility's current and expanded workload and provide
an infrastructure for sustained growth. Building the functionality required
for remote connectivity, the system enables users to access diagnostic
images and reports in the existing data stores at each facility, increasing
the level of medical care while reducing the associated costs.

"Radiology practices continue to be squeezed between the growing number
of exams and diagnostic images and the shortage of certified radiologists.
Compound that with an increasingly complex network of disparate PACS and
healthcare IT systems with limited connectivity, and it becomes extremely
difficult to provide seamless and cost-effective teleradiology services,"
said Janine Broda, vice president and general manager for Compressus
Medical Solutions Division. "We are proud to work with leaders like Seattle
Radiologists to develop and deploy comprehensive interoperability solutions
designed to proactively protect the quality and safety of patient care."
