ST. LOUIS, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Mallinckrodt Inc. (NYSE: MKG) said today
that the recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval of Methylin(TM) ER
10 and 20 mg tablets (hydrochloride extended-release tablets, USP) broadens
its offering of drugs available for treatment in the rapidly growing attention
deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) market.
In addition to the new extended-release formulation of Methylin,
Mallinckrodt markets Methylin immediate-release tablets (5, 10, and 20 mg).
Under an agreement with SmithKline Beecham, Mallinckrodt also co-promotes
Dexedrine(R) (dextroamphetamine sulfate) Spansule(R) sustained-release
capsules (5, 10 and 15 mg) and immediate-release tablets (5 mg), which are
also approved for ADHD treatment.

Sales for all segments of the market for products used to treat ADHD were
estimated to be more than $600 million in 1999, with an annual growth rate of
about 10 percent.
