Further boost for UK-developed anti-jam technology in export market
HARLOW, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Systems Limited (RSL) has been
selected by Lockheed Martin of Fort Worth, Texas, to supply 104 GAS-1 anti-jam
GPS antenna units. This is the largest single US contract won by the
company's Navigation Systems Group outside of the primary production contract
held with the GPS Joint Program Office in the US.
The contract is worth around $4 million and includes the equipment,
warranty provision, and project management. Delivery of the units is phased
over the period 2002 to 2006. A parallel complementary contract has also been
placed by Lockheed Martin on Raytheon in St Petersburg, Florida, for 26 GAS-1
Controlled Reception Pattern Antennas.
The GAS-1 equipment is destined for installation on several platforms,
including F16's and C130J's, being produced by Lockheed Martin for various
countries.
Andy Duffy, head of RSL's Navigation Systems and Special Projects
business, said: "RSL is already a STAR supplier to Lockheed, an award which we
received in recognition of the quality of our products and consistent on-time
delivery performance. This is an important contract for us and we welcome it
as another opportunity to demonstrate to a major customer and end user both
our capabilities and the excellence of the GAS-1 system."
Developed by RSL, GAS-1 is a revolutionary anti-jam Global Positioning
System (GPS) antenna system which is able to recognise sources of electrical
interference. By adjusting the way in which the system receives the GPS
satellite signals it can reject interference, allowing the navigation
equipment to function safely, accurately and efficiently. In military use
this allows operations to be carried out with greater accuracy and less risk.
GAS-1 has been selected by the air forces of the US, UK, and eleven other
nations. Over 2000 GAS-1 units have now been ordered with over 1600 already
delivered and in service around the world.
Raytheon Systems Limited is the UK-based subsidiary of Raytheon Company.

other programmes such as the Royal Navy's Future Carrier (CVF), the British
Army's Light Forces Anti-Tank Guided Weapon and the RAF's Precision Guided
