Allstate No. 1 in Top 10 Companies for African Americans
    NORTHBROOK, Ill., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- This week DiversityInc named
Allstate Insurance Company as the No. 1 company for African Americans in the
United States, particularly for those who want to rise in management
positions.  DiversityInc also named Allstate Insurance Company to the "Top 50
Companies for Diversity" list in April. DiversityInc based its findings on
data from companies that submitted questionnaires. DiversityInc is a
publication and Web site that reports on diversity issues.

executive editor, DiversityInc. "Allstate's diversity initiatives are clearly
supported from the top down."

    DiversityInc rated the companies on various factors including the
percentage of African Americans:
    -- among new hires, 21.2%
    -- in management, 11.8%
    -- and in the top 50 highest paid employees, 8%

    African-American employees make up 16.8% of the entire Allstate workforce.
    Allstate is the second largest personal property and casualty insurer in
the United States and a leading insurer in urban markets.
