LOS ANGELES, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Operation USA announced today that it
has partnered with Honeywell to support relief efforts in areas of Sri Lanka
that were badly damaged by the South Asian tsunamis of December 26, 2004.
Honeywell Hometown Solutions, Honeywell's community outreach program,
recently awarded Operation USA a $250,000 grant and has adopted the badly
damaged village of Kalledi in Sri Lanka. Honeywell is funding the
construction of a community center, health clinic and 215 homes for the
village's 950 surviving residents currently living in temporary housing. The
company is also funding the sinking of more than 200 wells to provide water
for local residents and paying for the rebuilding and refurbishment of the
village school.
Richard Walden, President and CEO of Operation USA, said, "Honeywell's
support will move people out of tents and into permanent homes, send children
back to school and help villagers get back into their fishing boats and
fields."
"Honeywell is committed to help rebuild the village of Kalledi," said Tom
Buckmaster, President of Honeywell Hometown Solutions. "Partnering with
Operation USA will enable us to leverage our housing and shelter expertise to
help nearly 1,000 villagers."
Operation USA, a Los Angeles-based international relief and development
agency, will also provide the village with agricultural equipment and
125 fully equipped fishing boats. The organization is also supplying Kalledi
with a medical vehicle and refrigerated fish transportation truck.
Honeywell Hometown Solutions focuses Honeywell's community outreach
