NEW YORK, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Announcement was made today by the law
firm of Milberg Weiss Bershad & Schulman LLP that David Bershad, who joined
the firm in 1968 as its first associate and rose to being a name partner,
has decided to take a leave of absence. This decision will allow Mr.
Bershad to focus fully on other matters.
As a leader of the firm for more than thirty years, Mr. Bershad helped
pioneer legal innovations that transformed the class action bar and gave
effective court access to millions of previously disenfranchised investors,
shareholders and consumers. His willingness to support charitable and pro
bono work on behalf of the Appleseed Foundation (an organization that
focuses on using legal remedies to solve community and youth-oriented
inequities) and to contribute generously to a wide array of local, national
and international philanthropies have inspired his colleagues and the law
community. He has served as a mentor to young lawyers entering the
profession -- and has long been regarded as one of the most hard-working
and respected members of the plaintiffs' bar.
Mr. Bershad joined Milberg Weiss (then Lawrence Milberg and Melvyn
Weiss' small general practice) in 1968. His milestone victories on behalf
of victims of corporate malfeasance include the Nasdaq Market Makers
Antitrust Litigation, the Rite Aid Corporation Securities Litigation, the
Lucent Technologies Securities Litigation and the Waste Management
shareholder derivative action.
Milberg Weiss Bershad & Schulman LLP is the most respected and
effective plaintiff's law firm in the United States. Founded in 1965, the
firm now has more than 120 lawyers, with principal offices in New York City
and additional offices in Boca Raton, Florida; Wilmington, Delaware;
Washington, D.C.; and Los Angeles, California. The firm's practice focuses
on prosecution of class and complex actions in many fields of commercial
litigation, emphasizing securities, corporate fiduciary, consumer,
insurance, healthcare, antitrust, mass tort, human rights and related areas
of litigation.
