Enhancements include increased search functionality, comparison shopping,
maps, driving directions, flash greeting cards, improved navigation schemes
and permission-based advertising using PrivaSeek's industry-leading
Persona(TM) technology.
Concurrent with the introduction of the portal improvements, InfoHiway
will change its name to WebZone.com to further differentiate it from its
competitors such as Lycos and Excite. http://www.webzone.com should be in place by
June 1, 2000.
"We are very excited about the new name for our portal site to
WebZone.com," said Douglas H. Hanson, RMI.NET's Chairman and CEO. "This
further demonstrates our commitment and ability to build upon past
accomplishments in our enhanced web service offerings."
"RMI.NET continues its aggressive evolution into a premiere e-business
service provider for all our customers on the Internet," added Hanson.
"RMI.NET is unique in its ability to provide a full suite of web solutions
including the portal site, WebZone.com."
E-shopping Feature Part of the Suite of Enhancements
An e-commerce enhancement to the WebZone.com portal site is a comparison
shopping feature that will allow Internet shoppers to, (1) compare total
prices, (2) negotiate total prices, and (3) choose the best deal. Users will
be able to browse general categories or search for a specific item.
Other new features include:
Privacy - WebZone.com will utilize the industry-leading Persona(TM)
software technology from PrivaSeek, Inc., a company specializing in permission
marketing and privacy management. Users will be able to personalize their
content with a profile they control.
Increased Search Functionality - The search engine will allow users the
"power" or "meta" search feature that simultaneously queries ten major search
engines and returns listings based on relevancy. Results will cite the
source.
Maps and Directions - The addition of this Web Guide will enable users to
generate maps, both domestic and international, and driving directions in the
U.S. and Canada.
E-cards - Users will be able to send online flash greeting cards for any
occasion.
Improved Navigation Scheme - Using simple tabs, this navigational scheme
will let users easily move from the search tool to the online shopping agent
as well as other areas of the site.
Other Enhancements to Come
"We intend to improve WebZone.com beyond what we have announced today,"
said Jeremy Black, RMI.NET's vice president of media services. "Our web
development engineers are working on more user-controlled features as well as
web-based e-mail."
