After a Two Year Hiatus, The Corvette(R), Camaro(R), Chevelle(R)
And Pontiac(R) GTO(TM) Return to the Test Drive Series in a Battle
Of Beauty Vs. Beast
LOS ANGELES, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- (Electronic Entertainment Expo,
Booth #824) It's beauty versus the beast -- and the beast is back!
Infogrames, Inc., (Nasdaq: IFGM) a leading global publisher of interactive
entertainment software, announced today that it has signed a worldwide,
non-exclusive deal with General Motors Corporation (NYSE: GM) to feature
several classic Chevrolet(R) and Pontiac cars in the Test Drive series. The
cars that will appear in the games include the Chevy(R) Camaro, Corvette,
Chevelle and the Pontiac GTO. The cars will be featured in Test Drive for
Sony(R) PlayStation(R)2 and the Xbox(TM) video game system, both games are due
out fall 2001.
"We are thrilled to have the awesome lineup of General Motors cars back in
Test Drive," said Laddie Ervin, director of marketing for sports and racing
titles at Infogrames, Inc.'s Los Angeles label. "Offering cars like the
Camaro, Corvette and the GTO along with our other licensed cars means that we
are once again able to offer players a complete selection of both the world's
finest exotic sports cars and all-American muscle cars."
General Motors cars, an important part of the car offerings of previous
Test Drive games, made their last appearance in Test Drive 5. The lineup of
GM cars that will appear in the newest Test Drive will accompany a selection
of more than 25 licensed muscle cars and exotic sports cars. The five cars
from GM include the 2001 Corvette(R) Z06(TM) and the 1969 Corvette(R)
ZL-1(TM), the 1970 Chevelle(R) SS(TM) 454(TM) LS6, the 1969 Camaro(R) ZL-1(TM)
and the 1967 Pontiac GTO.
"Our cars belong in Test Drive," said Gene Reamer, manager of licensing
for General Motors Corporation. "Test Drive is known for its high quality and
great selection of cars so we see this as a great way for GM to show off its
most beloved cars to racing fans and car enthusiasts."
The 2001 Corvette Z06 with its 385 horsepower, makes it one of the fastest
Corvette's ever with a 0-60 time of 4 seconds. The 1969 Corvette, with its
exaggerated Coke-bottle shape and lusty ZL-1 427 big block V8, packed
500+ horses. The 1969 Camaro ZL-1 427 engine also came in at over 500 horses,
and performed quite impressively with all that power packed under the hood of
a small pony car. The 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 was the biggest of the big
block V8's with 450 horsepower and a gutsy 500 lbs./ft. of torque. Finally,
the 1967 Pontiac GTO, a car many credit with giving birth to the muscle car
era, offered a Rochester Quadra-jet carburetor on top of its 400 cubic inch
engine and could do the quarter mile in 13.72 seconds. The name "GTO," which
stands for Gran Turismo Omologoto, was a reference to an Italian racing class
based on production vehicles.
Founded in 1908, General Motors is the world's largest automotive
corporation and full-line vehicle manufacturer. The company employs more than
386,000 people and partners with over 30,000 supplier companies worldwide. As
the largest U.S. exporter of cars and trucks, and having manufacturing
operations in 50 countries, General Motors has a global presence in more than
200 countries.
Developed by the Pitbull Syndicate, Test Drive continues the successful
formula of the Test Drive series with players racing some of the world's most
sought-after licensed vehicles in exotic real-world locations. Whether a
player is looking for the prestige and strength of an exotic sports car or the
raw power and rugged good looks of an American muscle car, the game will offer
something for every taste. With four exotic real world locations to race in,
including San Francisco and London, each location will have multiple paths
within them and will offer gravity-defying jumps, unpredictable cross-traffic,
relentless cops, smashable street-side objects and reactive pedestrians.
