National Semiconductor to Highlight New Display Technologies for Digital Television and Portable Devices at SID International Symposium 2005

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- National
Semiconductor (NYSE: NSM) will showcase its newest display technologies for
digital television and portable devices at the Society for Information Display
(SID) conference in Boston, May 22 to May 27. The company's program at SID
includes a keynote, technical speakers, product announcements and executive
interviews.
"National Semiconductor is the technology leader in providing
high-performance mixed-signal system solutions for the rapidly growing
high-definition television market," said Jean-Louis Bories, senior vice
president of National's Displays Group. "Recently, National announced an
adaptive video converter that enables dual-channel video format conversion up
to 1080p resolution. In addition, National's award-winning PPDS(TM)
architecture drives the performance of LCD televisions to greater than one
billion colors with accurate color temperature performance."

    National's Spotlight Products for SID
-- A true 10-bit timing controller and column driver chipset utilizing
          National's PPDS(TM) (point-to-point differential signaling)
architecture. Introduced last year, the PPDS architecture and
chipset dramatically simplify the display interconnect to improve
performance, enable smaller bezels and add a host of advanced
          features.
-- The first two video format converters in a new product family of
adaptive video converters. The converters support dual-channel
conversion up to 1080p resolution to provide state-of-the-art image
quality for high-definition digital televisions and home theater
          products.
-- A flip-style cellular handset demonstration that highlights
National's industry leading lighting (WLED/RGB and Flash), power
(OLED sub-display), high-speed serial interface (display and camera)
and audio (stereo speaker and Boomer(R) amplifier) products.
National's latest Mobile Pixel Link (MPL) display bridge device will
be shown along with a QVGA small format display module from a
          partner.
