WHEELING, W.Va., May 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wheeling-Pittsburgh
Steel Corporation (Nasdaq: WPSC) announced the promotion of three management
employees to newly created positions.
Ron Shoemaker, who had been Manager of Engineering, EAF Project, was
promoted to General Manager, Engineering & Environmental Control, reporting to
Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel President, Harry Page.
Steve Guzy, formerly Division Manager of Hot Strip Rolling and Processing,
was promoted to General Manager Primary Operations.
Glenn Steed, formerly Division Manager of Steelmaking, was promoted to
General Manager of Finishing Operations. Both Guzy and Steed will continue to
report to Don Keaton, Vice President of Steel Manufacturing and Procurement.
The promotions were effective May 1.
"Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel is in the midst of a major strategic
transition, the most significant aspect of which involves our move from a
integrated steelmaker to one that combines both blast furnace and electric arc
furnace technology," said President Harry Page. "While this is the most
visible part of our strategic plan, we also are involved with upgrades in
equipment, technology and processes that will allow Wheeling-Pittsburgh to
eliminate bottlenecks and meet increased value-added product requirements from
our customers.

Shoemaker joined Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in 2000 as Division Manager,
Technical Services and Planning, after working at Armco and Armco Specialty
Steel for more than 20 years in engineering and operating positions. Most
recently, Shoemaker was responsible for the construction and installation of
the Company's new Consteel Electric Arc Furnace. He has a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
Guzy has been with Wheeling-Pittsburgh for 27 years, the past seven as
Division Manager, Hot Strip Rolling and Processing. Guzy has a Bachelor of
Science Degree from California University of Pennsylvania in business
management and economics and has completed a management training program in
manufacturing technology from Cornell University.
Steed has 17 years of steel industry experience. At Wheeling-Pittsburgh
Steel, he has been Division Manager of both Steelmaking Division and the
Yorkville Plant and was responsible for the production startup of the
Company's Electric Arc Furnace. Steed has a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Metallurgical Engineering from Ohio State University. Before joined Wheeling-
Pittsburgh Steel in 2000 he was with AK Steel's Ashland, KY, works where he
had a series of increasingly responsible positions.
