New Nutrition Information Poster, Web-based Resources Help Guests
'HAVE IT YOUR WAY(R)' With Great-Tasting Fire-Grilled Foods
While Adhering to Personal Eating Strategies
MIAMI, May 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Whether adhering to specific
dietary requirements or simply looking to make a few adjustments to look and
feel better, beginning this week, BURGER KING(R) Guests have a new, easy-to-
follow Nutrition Information poster and a variety of resources on the BURGER
KING website to customize their "HAVE IT YOUR WAY" eating experiences.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20031014/BKLOGO )
The new BURGER KING Nutrition Information poster supplies nutritional data
on all of BURGER KING's menu offerings, from the new Angus Steak Burger,
TENDERCRISP(TM) chicken sandwich and Fire-Grilled Salads to the Original
WHOPPER(R) sandwich, fries and a Coke(R).
Creating a new way of supplying nutritional information was prompted by a
desire to make nutritional information more approachable and useful for BURGER
KING Guests, according to Joanne Lichten, Ph.D., chief nutrition officer for
Burger King Corporation.
"For too long, the only way consumers visiting fast food restaurants could
determine what foods they could include in their meals was to wade through a
sea of numbers," said Lichten. "Beyond providing essential nutritional data,
the new BURGER KING Nutrition Information Poster uses a simple, colorful
system of graphic shapes to guide Guests toward menu choices that can readily
be integrated into a variety of individual eating strategies. Our goal is to
put Guests in control."
The new poster focuses on nutritional choice, providing the flexibility to
address Guest eating strategies that monitor fat, carbohydrate or caloric
intake. Guests wanting to reduce the fat in their menu choices can select
items marked with blue squares, representing choices that meet the U.S. FDA
standard of containing 3 grams of fat or less for every 100 grams of product
weight and not more than 30 percent of calories from fat. Those looking for
low-carb alternatives should seek out items marked with a red circle,
reflecting BURGER KING products containing 7 or fewer grams of carbs per item.
Gold triangles denote menu choices that have 350 or fewer calories per item.
Each of these symbols is prominently explained on the poster, guiding Guests
through the process.
The new poster provides information on 129 BURGER KING menu items.
In addition to the posters, which are being prominently displayed in
BURGER KING restaurants across the U.S., nutritional information about BURGER
KING products is available on the web by clicking on the Nutrition button at
http://www.bk.com .
According to Lichten, additional online tools are available to further
help Guests customize application of nutritional data to their BURGER KING
meal choices.
"We've also created a new web version of the poster that Guests can print
and use when going through our drive-through," said Lichten. "'HAVE IT YOUR
WAY' is more than a slogan. It's another way of reflecting our commitment to
helping consumers enjoy our products while remaining committed to their
personal eating style and preferences."
