MHTA and MHTF Announce New Award Category for 2004 Tekne Awards

 Nominations are Open to Honor a Teacher for the Innovative Use of Technology
                       at Awards Ceremony on November 9

    MINNEAPOLIS, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Minnesota High Tech Association
(MHTA) and Minnesota High Technology Foundation (MHTF) today announced that
nominations are open for a new award category for the Tekne Awards, the
celebration of companies and individuals who have shown superior technology
innovation and leadership in Minnesota.
    The Award for Innovation in Teaching will recognize excellence in
education through the innovative use of technology.  Teachers in both
elementary and secondary education in all subject areas are eligible to
receive the award.

    The goals of the award are to:
     -- Recognize individuals who create exciting learning opportunities for
        students through innovative use of technology.
     -- Cultivate experiences in the classroom not possible without
        technology.
     -- Promote use and sharing of technology in classrooms to benefit
        learning.
     -- Expand opportunities for students to be successful in technology-
        related careers.

    The recipient will be recognized at the fifth annual Tekne Awards held on
November 9, 2004 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
    Nominations can be submitted online at http://www.tekneawards.org .  The
nomination and application process close August 1.  Candidates are encouraged
to apply now.
    Tekne Award recipients represent technology innovators who have made
lasting contributions to enhancing the quality of life and competitiveness of
Minnesota.  The awards are separated into categories that recognize leaders in
innovation, development, commercialization and management of technology in
Minnesota.
