HOUSTON, May 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Reliant Energy stockholders
today elected Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Joel V. Staff, and
Kirbyjon H. Caldwell and Steven L. Miller to Reliant Energy's Board of
Directors at its annual meeting.
Stockholders also ratified the Audit Committee's selection of KPMG LLP
as the independent auditors for the year ending December 31, 2006. In
addition, a proposal to declassify the Board of Directors was approved. The
proposal was not opposed by the board, which did not make any voting
recommendation to stockholders. The board previously said in Reliant
Energy's proxy statement that it would abide by the vote of stockholders on
the proposal. Accordingly, at next year's annual meeting, the board will
present for stockholder approval an amendment to the certificate of
incorporation that, if approved, would eliminate the classified board.
