Thirteen World-Class Card Player Magazine Writer/Players Take Seats at World Series of Poker(R) Championship Event

Magazine Boasts History's Top 3 WSOP Money Winners Among Entrants; Stars From
    Two Fox TV Series Also to Sport Card Player Shirts at Legendary Finale
                               Beginning May 22

    LAS VEGAS, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Card Player magazine, "The Poker
Authority", announced today it will be well represented at the richest, most
famous, and most respected poker event on the planet: the World Championship
Event of the World Series of Poker(R), May 22-29, 2004 at the renowned
Horseshoe in downtown Las Vegas.
    In addition to thirteen legends of poker -- including all-time World
Series of Poker top money winners Phil Hellmuth Jr., Johnny Chan, and T.J.
Cloutier -- Card Player will host some of television's hottest stars at the
event.  Danny Masterson and Laura Prepon from the Fox Network's That 70's Show
will be in attendance during the competition, as well as Chris Masterson from
Malcolm in the Middle, another Fox hit.
    The full list of Card Player writer/players participating in the World
Championship Event of the World Series of Poker includes:

    -- Phil Hellmuth Jr., the top money winner in World Series of Poker
       history;
    -- Johnny Chan, number two on the World Series of Poker money list;
    -- Vince Burgio, championship poker player;
    -- Diego Cordovez, championship poker player and World Series bracelet
       winner;
    -- Mark Gregorich, considered by many to be the world's best Omaha poker
       player;
    -- Tom McEvoy, 25th on the World Series of Poker money list;
    -- Daniel Negreanu, currently ranked first in 2004 Player of the Year
       standings;
    -- Mike Sexton, championship poker player, World Series of Poker bracelet
       winner, and well-known host of the World Poker Tour;
    -- Robert Varkonyi, 2002 World Series of Poker champion; and
    -- Steve Zolotow, famous high limit poker player who has four final table
       finishes on the World Poker Tour.

    Celebrity "Boot Camp"
    As part of the preparation for this week's competition, Card Player
president Jeff Shulman conducted a poker "boot camp" in Los Angeles for Danny
Masterson, Chris Masterson, and Laura Prepon.  The three Fox Network stars, as
well as many Card Player participants, will wear shirts bearing the Card
Player logo for the cameras while at the event.
    The 35th annual World Series of Poker (WSOP), hosted by Harrah's
Entertainment, Inc., is expected to generate a total prize purse of about
$40 million.  Thirty-three events in all comprise the WSOP, held at the
historic Horseshoe.  The WSOP World Championship Event alone will award more
than $15 million in prize money among an expected 100 winners, with the lone
champion expected to take in over $3 million, a new record for any sporting
event in the Western hemisphere.
    The World Championship Event of the World Series of Poker will be
broadcast on ESPN beginning Tuesday, June 8 at 9 PM Eastern/Pacific.
