Ocean Energy Names New Director

    HOUSTON, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean Energy, Inc. (NYSE: OEI) today
announced the election of Wanda G. Henton to its Board of Directors.
    "We are pleased to have someone with Wanda's extensive experience in the
financial services industry as a member of our board," said James T. Hackett,
chairman, president and chief executive officer.  "Her background in asset
management as well as her expertise in investment banking and law will be an
asset to Ocean as we accelerate our growth platform in the years ahead."
    Henton is chair and chief executive officer of her own marketing and
private placement consulting practice, Lloyd Bridge Advisory Corporation.  In
that role she advises private investment management organizations in the
design, structure and presentation of their various financial products to
institutional investors.  Before beginning her own company five years ago,
Henton spent 11 years in investment banking and government public finance.
She held executive positions with Dillon Read and Lazard Freres, serving as
senior banker to a number of state and municipal entities.
    She is a current member of both the Massachusetts and Louisiana Bar
Associations, and serves as a trustee on the board of the $80 billion New York
State Teachers' Retirement System and is a member of that group's Finance
Committee.  Henton also previously served on the board of the National
Association of Securities Professionals.
