NEC Electronics America to Showcase This and Other LCD Modules at SID 2007
TOKYO, SANTA CLARA, Calif., and DUESSELDORF, Germany, May 21
/PRNewswire/ -- NEC LCD Technologies, along with its sales and marketing
channels in the Americas and Europe, NEC Electronics America and NEC
Electronics (Europe) GmbH, today introduced a new 6.5-inch
amorphous-silicon thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD)
module with high luminance and extended graphics array (XGA) resolution.
The module, part number NL10276BC13-01C, eliminates the need for an
inverter circuit by employing a white light emitting diode (LED) for
backlight instead of the cold-cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) that is
traditionally used. This innovation produces low power consumption and a
slim design that, while lightweight, is highly resistant to vibration and
impact, making it ideal for use in portable display systems in industrial
applications. Featuring NEC LCD Technologies' proprietary
super-transmissive natural light TFT (ST-NLT) technology, the module is
able to display vivid colors in environments with high ambient light,
resulting in high reliability and excellent visibility in a variety of
situations. Furthermore, because LED backlights are free of mercury, the
new NEC module is more environmentally friendly than modules using CCFL
backlights.
"To help customers overcome the design challenges associated with
industrial display systems and to address the demand for thinner display
modules that consume less power and are more environmentally friendly, we
are now developing LCD modules with white LED-based backlight systems,"
said Masaaki Hiroshima, Product Planning Department Manager, NEC LCD
Technologies. "For the new 6.5-inch XGA module, we have capitalized on the
benefits of white LED technology by coupling it with transflective ST-NLT
technology to yield a robust, yet slim and lightweight display that
achieves clarity in many lighting conditions."
In addition to the 6.5-inch module, NEC LCD Technologies also offers a
new 15.3-inch color LCD module, part number NL12876BC26-25, with wide XGA
(WXGA) resolution. Both products will be showcased in NEC Electronics
America's booth #1235 at the Society for Information Display (SID)
Symposium 2007 in Long Beach, California, May 22-24. More information about
these and other modules that NEC Electronics America will demonstrate can
