("Luna" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas J. O'Neil
has agreed to stand for election as a director at the Company's Annual
General Meeting scheduled for June 18th 2008.
Tim Searcy, Luna's President, comments: "We are pleased to be in a
position to add Dr. O'Neil to the board as we move the Aurizona gold
project towards development. Dr. O'Neil's extensive experience in mine
development and operations will be an invaluable asset to the board."
Dr. O'Neil brings to the Board of Luna Gold over 35 years of experience
in mineral economics, and mine development, and operations. Dr. O'Neil
retired as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Cleveland-Cliffs
Inc. and President of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company and Cliffs Mining
Company. Prior to joining Cleveland-Cliffs, Dr. O'Neil spent 10 years with
Cyprus Minerals Company, where he served in various capacities including
Vice President, Engineering and Development. Previously, Dr. O'Neil was
Professor and Head of the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering
at the University of Arizona. He was elected to the National Academy of
Engineers in 1999 and he was President of the Society for Mining,
Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) in 2003. He has been a director and
Chairman of the American Iron Ore Association and is currently a trustee of
the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. Dr. O'Neill is also a director
of Thompson Creek Metals Co. and Fording Canadian Coal Trust. Most recently
he was a director of Peru Copper Inc. which was acquired by Aluminum
Corporation of China ("Chinalco"), a diversified metals and mining company
based in Beijing, China for C$840 million.
Dr. O'Neil holds a B.S. degree in Mining Engineering from Lehigh
University, a Master's degree from Pennsylvania State University and a
Ph.D. degree from the University of Arizona. He is the co-author of the
book, "Mine Investment Analysis," used as a text worldwide in the teaching
of mineral economics. Dr. O'Neil has received numerous awards recognizing
his distinguished service in mining including the William Lawrence Saunders
Gold Medal and the Robert Peele Award of SME and was elected AIME Henry
Krumb distinguished Lecturer in 1982 and Centennial Fellow, College of
Earth and Mineral Sciences, Pennsylvania State University in 1996.
Director Darren Bahrey will not be standing for re-election at Luna's
AGM, but has agreed to join the Company's advisory board and will continue
to provide guidance to the Company. Luna would like to thank Mr. Bahrey for
his efforts in advancing the Company. The management and directors of Luna
