Hello Direct Announces Customer Driven Improvements to Its Best-Selling Telephone Headsets

    SAN JOSE, Calif., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Hello Direct, Inc.
(Nasdaq: HELO), the leading developer and business-to-business direct marketer
of desktop telephony and equipment interface products, announced today the
introduction of significantly improved versions of the company's best-selling
Ultralight(R) EX and Solo(R) II headsets.  Introduced in January, 1999, these
headsets immediately became top sellers.  Based on customer feedback, Hello
Direct applied its ergonomic and acoustic engineering expertise to incorporate
many performance improvements in the new Ultralight EX and Solo II.  These
headsets are available at the same prices as previous versions.

    New and improved Ultralight EX
    The Ultralight EX, Hello Direct's single most popular over-the-head style
headset, has been redesigned to improve comfort and sound quality, while
maintaining its attractive appearance.  A new sculpted headpad makes the
Ultralight EX much more stable and comfortable on a wider range of head sizes.
    The Ultralight EX headset delivers improved sound quality with a high
performance speaker and enhanced sound directing cone.  The patent pending
sound cone reduces background noise and increases both the clarity and volume
of callers' voices.  The new sound cone is significantly softer than its
predecessor, which increases comfort for all-day wearers.
    The Ultralight EX is available in two styles, each bundled with a Hello
Direct amplifier.  The single speaker model retails between $179.99 and
$199.99, depending on the amplifier chosen, and the dual speaker model retails
between $209.99 and $229.99.  Both models include Hello Direct's unique
limited lifetime warranty.  They are in stock and available for immediate
shipment.

    New and improved Solo II
    The Solo II over-the-ear style headset features an ergonomically contoured
flexible backbone the user can easily customize for a more comfortable fit.
"Over-the-ear headsets are chosen by many telephone intensive professionals
because there is no headband or pad, and they don't muss the hair," said Dion
Blundell, director of product marketing at Hello Direct. "It's the first
choice style for most people. Until the Solo II arrived, traditional over-the-
ear headsets had uncomfortable hard plastic earhooks suitable only for ears of
average size and shape."
    Hello Direct engineers increased the flexibility of the Solo II's backbone
by 50% and enlarged the speaker to improve its already good fit, durability,
and sound quality. The new backbone lets the user mold the headset to the
exact shape of his or her ear from top to bottom. This ensures the best fit
and greatest possible comfort for the widest range of ear sizes and shapes.
    With virtually no increase in size or weight the Solo II now uses a 33%
larger speaker to improve sound quality.  This produces richer, clearer sound
across the full spectrum of phone systems.  The Solo II also employs a noise
canceling microphone to transmit voices more clearly and block background
noise.
    The new Solo II is available immediately, and includes the unique Hello
Direct limited lifetime warranty.  Its suggested retail price is $189.99 with
the Pro amplifier, and $219.99 with the SuperPro(R) amplifier.
