U.S. Navy Awards Raytheon Multi-Year Rolling Airframe Missile Contract

TUCSON, Ariz., May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA; RTNB)
has been awarded a $183 million contract by the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command
for a multiyear procurement of the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) Guided
Missile Launching System and related support equipment. Under the firm fixed-
priced contract, Raytheon will deliver 45 Block 1 RAM systems to the U.S. Navy
over a five-year period, to be installed on DD-963, LSD, LPD-17, and CV/CVN
ship classes.
"This contract represents a win-win situation for both Raytheon and for
our U.S. Navy customer," said Louise Francesconi, general manager for
Raytheon's Missile Systems business unit. "It allows us to more effectively
execute our longer term production plans and to pass along the resulting
efficiencies to our customer in significantly lower unit prices. We are
pleased that our customer has worked with us so diligently to bring this
contract to fruition."
RAM is a lightweight, quick reaction, high-firepower missile system
designed to provide anti-ship missile defense. The Guided Missile Launching
System (GMLS) includes a 21-round launcher and below-deck electronics. RAM is
co-developed and co-produced under a NATO cooperative program between the
United States and German governments.
Approximately 50 percent of the effort will be performed in Raytheon
facilities in Louisville, Ky., and Tucson, Ariz., with the remaining
50 percent being subcontracted to RAM-System GmbH of Ottobrunn, Germany.
Raytheon Company, based in Lexington, Mass., is a global technology leader
that provides products and services in the areas of commercial and defense
electronics and business and special mission aircraft. Raytheon has
operations throughout the United States and serves customers in more than 80
countries.

    Additional technical details:
RAM is presently deployed on more than 30 U.S. and 25 German ships. More
than 60 additional U.S. and German RAM deployments are planned, to include
amphibious classes, cruisers, destroyers, aircraft carriers and fast patrol
boats. RAM's dual-mode, autonomous, sensing seekers provide high firepower,
since no shipboard support is required after launch. The Korean Ministry of
Defense and the Hellenic Navy have recently ordered RAM for ship self-defense.
