Group's online community for gaming enthusiasts, announced the 1UP.com Awards
for the best video and PC games of the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo
(E3). The editors of the industry's leading publications Electronic Gaming
Monthly, Computer Gaming World, Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine and 1UP.com
voted for their top choices in 21 categories including Most Original Game,
Best Game Trailer, and Game of the Show.
New categories this year included Best Xbox 360 Game and Best Sony PSP
(PlayStation Portable) Game. The editors presented the awards on the show
floor, and the winners were featured in the E3 Show Daily, the official news
magazine for E3 written by the editors of Ziff Davis Media Game Group.
Nintendo's Legend of Zelda took top honors with the Game of the Show
award. The award for Microsoft's newly announced Xbox 360 went to the
company's own Gears of War. Handheld games SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo by Sony
Computer Entertainment of America and Mario Kart DS by Nintendo won awards in
the new categories for Sony PSP and Nintendo DS (Dual Screen). Nintendo's
Electroplankton, an interactive artistic application for Nintendo DS, won the
award for Most Original Game. The editors' favorite trailer was for Konami's
Metal Gear Solid 4.
"Game developers proved that even in a year dominated by new console
announcements, the game makers can still release titles worthy of serious
