SEATTLE, May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- UPLIFT INTERNATIONAL, the Seattle- and
Jakarta-based international health nonprofit organization, has partnered with
Honeywell to continue supporting relief efforts in Indonesia during the vital
recovery period following the tsunami devastation of December 26, 2004.
Honeywell Hometown Solutions, Honeywell's community outreach program, has
donated $50,000 to fund the restoration and improvement of healthcare systems
in the Aceh region of northern Sumatra. Uplift International will also use
Honeywell's donation to work with Indonesia's Ministry of Health to create
public health programs and support relief teams in 24 displaced person
shelters. The organization has already delivered 25 tons of medicines and
medical supplies valued at $7 million.
"This generous grant from Honeywell will assist our partnership with the
Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) to provide for additional health
professionals as well as the reconstruction of sustainable, capacity-building
health systems to serve the survivors of this incredible catastrophe," said
Mark Schlansky, Founder and CEO of Uplift International. "We are proud to
partner with Honeywell and are very grateful for their support in helping to
rebuild Indonesia."
"Honeywell is committed to helping those areas affected by the recent
tsunamis," said Tom Buckmaster, President of Honeywell Hometown Solutions.
"Our partnership with Uplift International will help Indonesia transition from
relief to recovery."
Honeywell's donation provides for those in immediate need and also allows
Uplift International to begin implementing new capacity-building and
sustainable programs to replace health infrastructure severely damaged by the
tsunamis.
"As a result of Honeywell's investment in Indonesia's future," said
Schlansky, "we will be able to continue our work in Aceh and North Sumatra in
partnership with IDI and other local organizations, over the months and years
ahead, to help assure the health and well being of those who have survived."
Honeywell Hometown Solutions focuses Honeywell's community outreach
programs on three issues of vital importance to Honeywell's communities:
