PITTSBURGH, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Electricity customers of Peoples Plus
can continue to receive power at lower rates than the local utility offers.
Details of the Peoples Plus program will arrive in the mail in the next week.
"Our commitment to energy choice in Pennsylvania is unwavering. During an
atmosphere of high summertime electricity rates we worked hard to find a way
to keep our price competitive," said Phil Riley, senior vice president of
Peoples Plus. "I am pleased to announce we have succeeded."
Peoples Plus has about 40,000 customers on the Duquesne Light system in
western Pennsylvania and about 10,000 customers on the Penelec and MetEd
systems in central Pennsylvania. Most of the contracts expire on May 31.
The Duquesne Light customers can receive electricity from Peoples Plus for
4.32 cents per kilowatt hour, 10 percent less than Duquesne Light's current
standard price of 4.80 cents. The Penelec and MetEd customers can receive
electricity for 4.48 cents per kilowatt hour, lower than the standard price of
4.53 cents.
Peoples Plus, a sister company of The Peoples Natural Gas Company, is a
non-utility provider of competitively priced natural gas and electricity in
Pennsylvania. Peoples Plus serves about 110,000 natural gas customers in
Pennsylvania. It also provides a variety of related products and services to
homes and businesses.
Dominion, the nation's largest fully integrated natural gas and
electricity company, is the parent company of Peoples Plus.
