DALLAS, TX USA
DALLAS, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Look for the famous Greyhound logo astride
a brand-new Motor Coach Industries model, the G4500. The new motor coach
model has a sleek appearance, roomier seating for 55 passengers, a quieter
ride, increased baggage capacity and wheelchair accessibility.

Greyhound Lines was presented with its first five (of 25) wheelchair-lift
equipped G4500 coaches today during a special celebration hosted by MCI at
Greyhound Lines' Dallas maintenance facility. Greyhound, whose 2,500 coach
fleet has an average age of 6 years, plans to take 101 more G4500 units by
November.
The first Greyhound G4500s will be placed into regular-schedule passenger
service on Dallas-Los Angeles and Chicago-Seattle routes.
What can passengers expect? Boarding the G4500, passengers will find an
easy-to-maneuver entryway. For the mobility-challenged, a space-saving,
rear-entry wheelchair-lift has been designed to be easily accessible while
offering a sense of privacy. Inside, the all-glass-look windows create an
invitingly expansive view. An increase in leg room lets passengers relax, and
individual airflow and light controls put them in control of their own
comfort.
In addition, drivers will welcome the easy-to-reach, easy-to-read
instrumentation, the easy-slide window for paying tolls and the 10 percent
increase in baggage capacity.
The G4500 features easy-to-service components and easy access to all
routine service areas. All parts were chosen with replacement economy in
mind. Even the baggage doors are interchangeable. The G4500 body is
all-stainless-steel, with the exception of the bogies and suspension supports,
and is lighter in weight for greater fuel efficiency.
Representing a five-year development investment, the G4500 follows in a
series of other MCI model successes for Greyhound Lines. All coaches in the
Greyhound fleet are MCI models, including the popular D4000 and D4500 models,
accounting for more than 30 percent of Greyhound's fleet, along with 275 MCI
102A3s.
MCI has been building coaches since the 1930s, with the last three decades
producing some of the most popular models ever made. In the '80s and early
'90s, the company's MC-9, 102A3, and MC-12 became the most desirable motor
coaches in North America thanks in part to Greyhound Lines. These coach
models, along with MCI's D-Series, became the standards to which all other
models in the industry have been compared.
"From stage one, Greyhound has been advising us on the G4500 model's
features," said Pete Palladino, vice president of major accounts for MCI.
"We wanted to bring a good-looking new coach to market that would satisfy
line-haul and charter operators' needs for passenger and driver comfort along
with operational efficiencies. An industry expert once said that the coach
Greyhound runs is the coach that the industry wants because of their high
standards. We're grateful to Greyhound for their input on this new model."
Rounding out the full line of motor coach models by MCI is the E4500.
Released four years ago, the E4500 is the company's flagship luxury coach.
Blending the legendary simplicity of the D-Series and the sought-after
curb-appeal of the E, the MCI J4500, introduced this year, is a modern
interpretation of the classic American tour coach. The F3500, another new
model, is a two-axle coach that is offered as a conversion-ready model as
well as a seated coach.
Sixty percent of the coaches on the road today in the U.S. and Canada are
made by MCI.
With headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill., and sales and service centers
across the U.S. and in Canada, MCI is the leading designer, manufacturer and
marketer of intercity coaches and coach-related parts and services for the
North American market.
