Stellar Lineup on Show Floor Highlights EDA Business, Technology, Education,
and More
BOULDER, Colo., May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The 41st Design Automation
Conference (DAC), occurring June 7-11 in San Diego, Calif., features some of
the most interesting speakers, events, and panels, right on the show floor in
the DAC Pavilion sessions.
Running the first four days of the show, the DAC Pavilion features
14 events covering a variety of topics, ranging from EDA business issues to
the value of user groups. In addition, the DAC Pavilion will play host to two
highlight events: The award for EDA's "Woman of the Year," and the
announcement of winners of DAC's annual Student Design Contest.

Monday, June 7
Dataquest's Gary Smith kicks things off with highlights from his annual
EDA forecast at 9:15am. Next up at 10:15am is a "Wall Street Review of EDA"
moderated by Jessica Kourakos of Synopsys, and featuring speakers from Needham
& Company, Wells Fargo, and Buckingham Capital Management. Following at
11:15am is a discussion of the highs and lows of mergers and acquisitions led
by John Barr of Buckingham Capital Management, with speakers Jim Hogan, John
Sanguinetti, and Venk Shukla.
The afternoon sessions begin at 2pm with "Export Controls in the Age of
Globalization," with Wally Rhines moderating, and export experts Larry
Disenhof of Cadence and Erik Oliver of Synopsys. At 3pm there will be a talk
on the state of the "Semiconductor IP Business in 2004" with luminaries from
Cadence, Mentor, ARM, Dolphin Integration, and LSI Logic. Last but not least,
at 4pm, ESNUG's John Cooley will ask the question: "User Forums or Useless
Forums?" Cooley will be among nine panelists in what promises to be a lively
discussion.
Tuesday, June 8
Tuesday's sessions start at 2pm with "Ask the CTOs," featuring those
titles from ARM, Synopsys, and Cadence holding forth on leading edge design
issues. In the 3pm slot, panelists will examine "EDA Software Quality,"
looking at ease of use, how vendors check for robustness prior to shipment,
and other issues. The final presentation comes at 4pm and discusses the
intricacies of OS Support, with panelists from Cadence, Synopsys, Sun, and Red
Hat.
Wednesday, June 9
Wednesday is Awards Day at the DAC Pavilion. The opener at 10:15am looks
at standardization issues with an international panel. At 11:15am the focus
shifts to "IP Quality," with moderator Jim Tully of Dataquest, who leads a
discussion of users and suppliers on the subject of quality, and what it costs
to achieve it. At 2pm, EDA's "Woman of the Year" will be interviewed by
Nanette Collins, uncovering her personal and professional take on gender
issues in technology businesses. The day's final presentation takes place at
3pm when the winners of the "Annual Student Design Contest" are honored. This
year's contest set records for number of entries, and the best of the best
undergrad and grad students will be on display to talk about their winning
entries.
Thursday, June 10
The final DAC Pavilion presentation is on Thursday, 10:15am. Moderated by
Electronic Business' Howard Baldwin, it looks at choices in design among ASIC,
COT, and FPGA and asks, "What should your next chip be?" Panelists include
Ronnie Vasishta of LSI Logic, Robert Blake from Altera, and Kamalesh Ruparel
who heads ASIC and COT design at Cisco.
