New Products Highlight Advanced Technologies and Customer Support That Make
NEC Electronics America a Leading Supplier of Industrial LCD Solutions
BOSTON, SID International Symposium, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- At the Society
for Information Display (SID) 2005 Symposium today, NEC Electronics America,
Inc., the sales and marketing channel for NEC LCD Technologies'
industrial- and non-PC-type liquid crystal displays (LCDs) in the Americas,
highlighted its expertise in serving the industrial LCD market by exhibiting
14 new and next-generation LCD modules from its extensive product line.
Specifically engineered with features to meet the demanding requirements of
industrial applications, these LCD modules have wide operating temperature
ranges, indoor/outdoor viewability, wide viewing angles, high resolutions and
fast response times. NEC's LCD modules also meet the high quality, long-term
support and environmental standards of today's industrial customers. Targeted
for various industrial display products, high-end workstations, medical
imaging displays and handheld terminals, the new LCD modules are available in
both color and monochrome versions and in sizes ranging from 2.7 inches to
21.3 inches. Many are on display this week in the NEC Electronics America
booth (#1910) at SID.
"NEC Electronics America's success in the industrial LCD market is the
result of long-term relationships with our customers that allow us to
anticipate and meet their needs," said Shigehiko Satoh, Ph.D., associate vice
president and general manager, display strategic business unit, NEC
Electronics America. "For example, we are currently seeing a demand from
customers for displays that can be used in industrial handheld mobile
terminals. Accordingly, at SID this year we are displaying a number of smaller
LCD modules capable of vivid color display, high visibility and low power
consumption. We are also exhibiting larger LCD modules that leverage our core
technologies and are designed for use in other popular industrial spaces, such
as test and measurement equipment, factory automation systems, gaming
terminals, kiosks, medical imaging displays and graphic-intensive
workstations."
NEC LCD Modules
At SID 2005, NEC Electronics America will be demonstrating a variety of
new products and product prototypes from NEC LCD Technologies that showcase
core technologies and illustrate a continued commitment to providing
innovative LCD solutions for the industrial market.

NEC Core Technologies for Industrial LCD Applications
To effectively support industrial applications, NEC LCD Technologies has
developed a variety of technologies optimized to address the challenging
operational and environmental requirements typical of industrial applications.
The core technologies include the most advanced evolution of the company's
super-fine technology (UA-SFT), which bolsters an LCD's brightness, broadens
its effective viewing angle, heightens its response time, and delivers high
pixel density (up to 200 pixels/inch with resolutions up to 5M pixels). Two
transflective natural light technologies (NLT), ST-NLT (super-transmissive)
and SR-NLT (super-reflective), address the extreme indoor and outdoor lighting
conditions-from direct sunlight to deep shade-that can adversely affect an
industrial LCD's viewability.
Finally, adaptive design technology is exemplified in optimized color
filters and backlight systems and superior gray scale reproduction,
development of backward-compatible products, compact module design, and wide
operating temperature ranges. Applying its extensive expertise in
high-resolution technologies, NEC LCD Technologies offers large-screen color
and monochrome LCD modules with high pixel densities (in 1, 2, 3 and 5 million
megapixel configurations) that provide the extreme image quality demanded in
medical imaging equipment and graphics workstations.
Outstanding Quality and Customer Support
Industrial products are often in the field for years, operating in
grueling physical environments and requiring an easy upgrade path when new
display technologies become available. Accordingly, NEC LCD Technologies
offers long-term product support, typically five to seven years for industrial
LCD modules. The company's modules are capable of operating at temperature
extremes (from -10 to 70 degrees Celsius) and have consistent design
footprints from one product generation to another, enabling customers to
easily install the latest LCD modules into existing designs.
Furthermore, with deadlines for compliance with environmental legislation,
such as the European Union's Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
initiative, rapidly approaching, NEC LCD Technologies has taken steps to
ensure that its industrial LCDs meet all lead- and mercury-free design and
manufacturing requirements and expects that its LCD modules will be in
compliance with RoHS in advance of the July 1, 2006, deadline.
