NTERA Technology Transforms Existing LCD Facility for Less Than One Percent of Comparable OLED CapEx Costs

SID - BOSTON, May 24 /PRNewswire/ -- NTERA demonstrates the
affordability, speed, and ease of mass-producing NanoChromics displays by
enabling an LCD technology pioneer in Taipei, Taiwan to become
production-ready for NanoChromics displays for under a million dollars in
less than six months.
NTERA today announced that it has successfully transformed an existing
LCD facility in Taipei, Taiwan, into a production-ready NanoChromics display
factory. NanoChromics technology combines superb optical performance and
ink-on-paper readability with low power consumption, and overcomes the
production environment and cost challenges posed by existing LCD, OLED and
other display technologies.
"We are very pleased with the ease, speed and cost of how the NTERA
technology transformed our LCD facility to make NanoChromics products.
NTERA's manufacturing process is uniquely convergent with our expertise in
LCD production, making it familiar to implement and yet easier to deal with.
By way of example, NanoChromics technology is an order of magnitude less
sensitive to critical parameters in LCD manufacturing such as tight cell gap
control, a traditionally yield impacting process step," said Frank Tzeng,
General Manager of Mesostate Ltd. "Moreover, the production technology is
solution-processable, unlike OLEDs and hence does not incur the high capital
costs. As one of the first companies in Taiwan to bring LCD to market and
subsequently transfer the production to China, we are delighted to have
successfully completed the new technology set-up in Taiwan. We are well on
the way to simultaneously increasing volume and reducing cost at our facility
to meet the burgeoning demand."
"The real product differentiation offered by our display technology is
driving huge demand from marquee consumer facing and industrial brand names
as well as best-in-class small to medium product companies," said Nick How,
President, NTERA Ltd. "Because NTERA has successfully deployed an
LCD-convergent manufacturing process, we can now quickly scale our production
capacity in line with customer demand."
NanoChromics displays are ideal for use in a wide range of
consumer-facing and industrial applications. From home automation (e.g.
thermostats) to intelligent appliances and white goods; electronic textbooks
to test kits (e.g. pregnancy, diabetes); car navigation systems to airplane
cockpits and industrial controls; consumer electronics to time pieces,
e-billboards and shelf labels, each of the many applications takes advantage
of unprecedented visual impact at low cost.
    About NTERA Ltd.
NTERA Ltd. is a material science and applications company commercializing
its patented NanoChromics(TM) family of technologies. Made using proprietary
nanostructured materials, NanoChromics displays look like ink on paper and
act with the intelligence of an electronic display. NanoChromics technology
offers superb optical performance and is more cost-effective than existing
LCD, OLED and other display technologies. Paper white or translucent
backgrounds give the NanoChromics displays four times the contrast and
reflectivity of other display technologies. The NanoChromics technology
bi-stability, 1vDC operation, and high reflectivity deliver 10 times longer
battery operation than existing display technologies. The technology supports
direct drive, flexible, and high-resolution active matrix applications. In
business since 1997 through a relationship with University College Dublin in
Ireland, NTERA has offices in suburban Philadelphia, USA and Dublin, Ireland,
as well as manufacturing facilities in Taiwan and Dublin. http://www.ntera.com
