WICHITA, Kan., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Aircraft's new entry-level
business jet, the Premier I, on May 23 obtained FAA certification for single
pilot and flight into known icing -- the final two basic certification
requirements for the aircraft.
For the single pilot certification, the Premier I made a total of six
flights into high-workload environments, Instrument Meteorological Conditions
(IMC) and night flights. Certification flights for icing were completed in
April, including flights into known icing and using residual ice shapes to
determine aircraft handling.
"These latest FAA certifications re-emphasize the flexibility and value
that the Premier I brings to the market," said Hansel Tookes, chairman and CEO
of Raytheon Aircraft. "Clearly, the Premier I marks a new era for business
jets with its new composite technology and customer value. The Premier I
defines the future of aviation as the most advanced entry-level jet in the
world."
Deliveries for the Premier I begin in the second quarter, with 36 planned
for the entire year. The $5.3 million aircraft is Raytheon Aircraft's first
all-new business jet from original design, and is the first in a series of
new-technology business jets being introduced by the company. This new family
of business jets features Raytheon's signature all-composite fuselage and a
swept aluminum wing. These advances in aircraft design and construction
provide the Premier I with the fastest cruise speed and largest passenger
cabin in its class. The Premier I is the first composite-fuselage business
jet to be FAA certified.
The Premier I has a high-speed cruise of more than 520 miles per hour. A
standard-equipped aircraft with full fuel, a pilot and four passengers has a
range of more than 1,430 nautical miles and is certified to operate up to
41,000 feet. The aircraft received FAA type certification March 23.
Following the Premier I, Raytheon Aircraft has two more business jets in
development using Raytheon's new design concepts: the super mid-size Hawker
Horizon and the light mid-size Hawker 450.
Raytheon Aircraft, based in Wichita, designs, manufactures, markets and
supports jet, turboprop and piston-powered aircraft for the world's
commercial, military, and regional airline markets. It had revenues of $3.2
billion in 2000.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is a
global technology leader in defense, government and commercial electronics,
and business and special mission aircraft.
