DVD Multiplay(TM) Lets Single Disc Play on PCs and DVD Players
SEATTLE, May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- A CD-sized disk packed with vibrant
visuals and interactive features for PCs as well as movie-quality
entertainment for DVD players will debut at E3, the Electronic Entertainment
Expo in Atlanta, May 28-30.
Developed by Multimedia 2000 and called DVD Multiplay(TM), the format
premieres with titles that take special advantage of the video and
interactivity of the discs. The company will distribute DVD Multiplay discs
in a variety of packaging formats, consistent with the demands of their sales
channel-video, consumer electronics or computer/software specialty stores.
Multimedia 2000 will showcase Great Chefs -- Great Cities (suggested
retail $44.95) and Warren Miller's Ski World (suggested retail $44.95) -- the
first of a series of visually compelling titles from Multimedia 2000 that will
combine interactivity and movie quality video. The DVD Multiplay technology
allows a single disk to play as video on a DVD video player and as a fully
interactive computer program with videos on a DVD-ROM-based computer system.
Other titles in the works include a DVD multimedia encyclopedia. Managed by
veterans of the multimedia industry, Paul Bader and Tom McGrew, and joined by
Leilani Gouveia, Pete MacKenzie and Dennis Tanner, Multimedia 2000 is forging
relationships with content providers, developers and publishers who want to
leverage M-2K's distribution strength.
"Users are far beyond the postage stamp-sized unstable images CD-ROMs were
known for," said Paul Bader, president of Multimedia 2000. "Now, with DVD
Multiplay, a single disk can give users a wealth of enjoyment from interacting
with the information on a PC to playing and enjoying the videos in couch
potato mode."
The DVD Multiplay format holds seven times the capacity of a single
CD-ROM, supporting full-screen, full motion, MPEG-2 video and Dolby Digital
(AC-3) 5.1 Surround Sound. Each DVD Multiplay title can contain a full-length
motion picture or other informative video in addition to an interactive
multimedia title.
Minimum System Requirements: DVD Video Player or DVD-ROM-based computer
system with Pentium 133, 16 MB RAM, SVGA 16-bit 2 MB video card, Microsoft
Windows 95, 10 MB free hard disc space, MPEG-2 decoder with Dolby Digital
(AC-3) Surround Sound, DVD-ROM drive.
Availability and Pricing: Warren Miller's Ski World DVD and Great
Chefs-Great Cities are available from consumer electronics and software
