OfficeMax(R) Launches Latest Technology at Checkout for Faster Customer Service

New Point-of-Sale Systems Reduce Customer Checkout Time and Significantly
                          Improve Rebate Procedures

ITASCA, Ill., May 26 /PRNewswire/ -- In a step to make shopping faster for
busy customers, OfficeMax(R), one of the nation's largest office supply
retailers, recently announced it has installed new register systems in its
stores nationwide that provide even better customer service via an improved
rebate system and faster checkout times.
The new system prints complete product rebate instructions and purchase
information directly onto a customer's receipt. Customers no longer have to
refer to a booklet containing rebate information to find the correct forms and
requirements, which helps simplify the rebate application process. The new
registers, in addition to being more precise and user-friendly, significantly
reduce customer checkout time. The new systems have been installed in all of
OfficeMax's nearly 1000 retail stores.
"The new point-of-sale systems at OfficeMax are a direct reflection of our
commitment to deliver an unparalleled customer service experience," said Gary
Peterson, president of OfficeMax retail operations. "We know that no customer
wants to wait, either in a checkout line or to receive product rebates. With
our new system, OfficeMax is continuing to find ways to save our busy
customers more time."
The new point-of-sale technology joins other OfficeMax innovations that
improve the customer's shopping experience, including a new store design to
help customers find what they need quickly and easily, and boundless service,
where employees outfitted with headsets offer faster and better customer
service without typical departmental boundaries.
