Entelos Acquires Discovery Innovations

Broadens Research Offerings for Internal and Collaborative Efforts

FOSTER CITY, Calif., May 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Entelos, Inc., the
leader in biosimulation technologies for pharmaceutical research and
development, announced today the acquisition of Discovery Innovations, a
specialized provider of data integration products and services to the life
sciences. With the staff and technologies of Discovery Innovations, Entelos
will be able to provide broader research capabilities, both to its customers
and to its own internal development programs.
"Biological data is being generated at an exponential rate, and its
effective use is an important opportunity for making new discoveries. The
technologies developed by Discovery Innovations bring order and structure to
this data, while Entelos' PhysioLab(R) technology puts it into a biological
context. With this acquisition, we will be able to better leverage the assets
of both companies," said James Karis, President and CEO of Entelos. "The
obvious synergies between the organizations make this transaction compelling.
Now we will be able to provide more value to our collaboration partners, as
well as support our own internal drug development efforts."
Discovery Innovations' current products include CHAI(TM), a web-based
application for aggregating research tools for easy access within a global
pharmaceutical organization, and LInKS(TM), an information management solution
for integrating the crucial functions of searching, contextualizing, and
sharing information in a tailored environment for the pharmaceutical research
community.
As part of Entelos, Discovery Innovations' capabilities will be used to
integrate data generated by Entelos' PhysioLab simulation platforms into a
broader research pipeline, or conversely, to integrate experimental data into
the PhysioLab modeling environment. Additionally, Entelos plans to offer its
PhysioLab modeling platform to other companies.
"Joining Entelos will allow the technologies we developed at Discovery
Innovations to enable the world's leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology
companies to more efficiently access, analyze, and share information across
their global organizations," said Scott Clarke, CEO of Discovery Innovations.
"Together we offer an efficient means to manage life science information,
ensuring increased productivity and reduced cost and complexity."
As part of the acquisition, Scott Clarke will join the Entelos management
team. Mr. Clarke was previously with the life sciences web portal
BioSpace.com, where he served as CEO from 2000-2003 after serving as CIO at
Incyte. Before that, Mr. Clarke spent 11 years at Syntex Corp. in a number of
positions, including CIO.

human biology to dramatically improve how medicines are discovered, developed,
and brought to market. Using our proprietary PhysioLab biosimulation platforms
-- computer-based mathematical models of human disease, we systematically
uncover the biological mechanisms underlying a disease in order to identify
potential points of therapeutic intervention and the patients most likely to
benefit. In addition to our internal research programs, Entelos partners with
pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations worldwide.
