NEW YORK, May 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Edison Schools (Nasdaq: EDSN), the nation's largest private manager of public
schools, announced today that one of its partnership schools -- Renaissance
Academy-Edison in Phoenixville, PA -- is one of the state of Pennsylvania's
top scoring schools on the Pennsylvania System Scholastic Assessment (PSSA)
writing Exam.
Ninety-four percent of Renaissance Academy ninth grade students scored
proficient or above on the PSSA writing exam. The impressive performance of
Renaissance ninth graders places them in the top one percent of all schools in
the state of Pennsylvania. At the ninth grade level, Renaissance finished
sixth out of 720 schools (and fifth for scaled scores) in the entire state.
At the sixth grade level, Renaissance Academy had an extremely strong
showing as well. With 75.6 percent of six graders scoring proficient or above
on the writing exam, Renaissance finished in the top 20 percent of 1,183
elementary schools in the state.
"Renaissance's performance on the PSSA writing exam is truly noteworthy.
The students, staff, and leadership team have worked tirelessly to implement
the Edison school design -- and it's continuing to pay off. Students are
performing at higher levels each year -- and only a handful of schools have
outperformed Renaissance."
Renaissance principal, Angie Padrnos, echoed Chubb's sentiments. "We are
proud of our staff and students and the commitment they have to teaching and
learning. We are amazed that in three short years we have achieved these great
scores."
Located 30 miles outside of Philadelphia, Renaissance serves 750 students
in grades K-10. Over the next two years, Renaissance will be expanding to
serve grades K-12.
