- Ryder Opens More Efficient Facility That Is Home to
More Than 700 Employees -
MIAMI, May 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a
global leader in transportation and supply chain management solutions, today
announced the official grand opening of its new four-story, 250,000 square
foot global headquarters facility located in Flagler Station at 11690 NW 105th
Street in Miami. The new headquarters is being leased from Flagler
Development Company.
The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony commenced at 11 a.m. The U.S.
Southern Command Joint Service Color Guard delivered the presentation of the
colors. Florida Governor Jeb Bush participated in the dedication and ribbon-
cutting ceremony and honored Ryder for its commitment to remaining in the
South Florida community. The event was followed by an employee Memorial Day
celebration barbecue luncheon with live music and prizes.
"I am honored to be here today to recognize Ryder's longtime commitment to
Florida, the state where it first established its roots more than 70 years
ago," said Governor Bush. "While this fine global corporate headquarters
would be welcomed anywhere, I am distinctly proud that they found South
Florida to be the best place to foster their future success. South Florida
wins by retaining this outstanding Fortune 500 company, and Ryder wins by
remaining in a community and state that greatly values their presence,
economic contributions and corporate citizenship. I look forward to their
ongoing success in the Sunshine State."
Commenting on its new headquarters decision, Ryder Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer Greg Swienton said, "Ryder's desire for a new headquarters
was driven by our need to improve process efficiencies, new technologies and a
redesigned business model that has led to significantly better financial
performance and increased competitiveness of Ryder's products. We appreciate
the hard work and effective collaboration between business and government, and
we are pleased to celebrate this day with those who helped us make the
decision to remain in the community that has been so integral to our success
over the years."
Other key participants in Ryder's grand opening ceremony included Major
General Michael Jelinsky of the U.S. Southern Command; Armando Codina,
Chairman and CEO of the Codina Group, whose team was responsible for the site
search and real estate transactions; and Adolfo Henriques, President and CEO
of Florida East Coast Industries, the parent company of Flagler Development
Corporation, whose team built this facility.
Ryder's new headquarters facility houses more than 700 employees. Senior
