MicroProse Announces Civilizaton(TM) II: The Test of Time at E3

Animation, Linked Maps and Two New Worlds Take the Most Popular Strategy Game
of All Time to the Next Level

ATLANTA, Electronic Entertainment Expo, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- MicroProse,
Inc. (Nasdaq: MPRS), a worldwide interactive entertainment company, announced
today the development of the next PC game in the best-selling, award-winning
Civilization(TM) II series, Civilization(TM) II: The Test of Time. Building
on the foundation of the most popular strategy game of all time, Civilization
II: The Test of Time offers revolutionizing new enhancements including
animation, linked maps, the addition of two exciting worlds and more.
"MicroProse is taking the most popular strategy game of all time to the
next level with the development of Civilization II: The Test of Time," said
Mary Lynn Slattery, senior director, marketing at MicroProse. "In developing
Civilization II: The Test of Time, the development team has taken input from
Civilization fans and created a game that takes full advantage of cutting-edge
computer graphics and animation, advanced artificial intelligence and
multiplayer gameplay."

    New Features:

    * Animation - The world is now animated with units that move, work,
fight and die. Inside the cities, an animated population works and
plays, and even the buildings - especially the Wonders of the World -
move and have great sound effects. Selected special terrain resources
will also be animated - buffalo graze and fish swim.

    * Linked Maps - The addition of multiple linked maps will significantly
expand on the Civilization experience. Opening up nearly unlimited
design possibilities, players can move between maps via special
transport sites and city improvements. Some units will even have the
designed-in ability to transport between maps.

    * Two New Worlds - Civilization II: The Test of Time offers three games
in one. In addition to the original Civilization II world, an animated
fantasy game based on the popular Midgard scenario from Civ II
Fantastic Worlds(TM) and an animated science fiction alien threat game
of survival colonization and ultimately the conquest of an entire solar
system, are featured. These are not scenarios; they are true worlds
       within the game.

    Concepts:
Civilization II: The Test of Time allows players to be ruler of their own
empires, controlling every decision necessary to build the most powerful
civilization in the world. Players can build societies based on the
principles of democracy or rule with an iron fist; they can bring glory and
power to their civilization by building incredible "Wonders of the World" or
put their people to work to develop the principles of law, science and
technology. Players can also negotiate with history's most ingenious leaders
and form alliances with them or, on the contrary, command their military units
to wage war against them for the purpose of conquest. The players' ultimate
goal is to be the first civilization to colonize space or conquer the world.
To date, the Civilization franchise has generated sales of more than two
million units worldwide and has been inducted into the Computer Gaming World
Hall of Fame. Hailed as the "Game of the Year" in 1996 by PC Gamer, Time
Magazine and Computer Retail Week, and "Strategy Game of the Year" by Computer
Gaming World, Civilization II also ranks as one of the most critically-
acclaimed games in strategic history, receiving five star ratings in Next
Generation and Computer Games Strategy Plus.
