U. S. Steel Announces Executive Appointments in Accounting and Finance Organizations

    PITTSBURGH, May 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel
Corporation (NYSE: X) Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Gretchen R. Haggerty today announced two executive appointments in the
company's accounting and finance organizations. Larry G. Schultz has been
named senior vice president & controller. He will continue to report to
Haggerty. Gregory A. Zovko has been appointed vice president-accounting. He
will report to Schultz. The changes are effective June 1.

Slovakia and Serbia and other major corporate initiatives have created some
significant challenges and opportunities for U. S. Steel's accounting and
finance organizations," said Haggerty. "Larry and Greg have both made
important contributions to the corporation's success during these times of
tremendous change, and I am pleased to recognize them with these
appointments."

    Schultz, 58, joined U. S. Steel in 1973 as an industrial engineer at
Pittsburgh headquarters and held a series of accounting and planning posts
there and at nearby Mon Valley Works facilities before being named
director-corporate financial analysis in 1986. He was appointed comptroller
of USX Engineers and Consultants, Inc. in 1987.

    In 1988, Schultz moved to Washington, D.C., to serve on the President's
Commission on Executive Exchange and returned to U. S. Steel in 1989 as
director-analysis and general accounting. He advanced to comptroller of U.
S. Steel in 1992 and was appointed vice president-accounting for USX
Corporation in 2000.

    In January 2002, Schultz was named vice president-investor relations &
financial analysis, and in May 2002, he assumed his current position, vice
president & controller.

    A native of Barto, Pa., Schultz received a bachelor's degree in
mathematics from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., in 1971, a master's
degree in operations research and statistics from Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute in Troy, N.Y., in 1973, and a master's degree in business
administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1979. He is a member of
the Institute of Management Accountants.

    Schultz will remain based at U. S. Steel's corporate headquarters in
Pittsburgh.

    In his new role, Zovko, 47, will oversee accounting functions for all
of U. S. Steel's business units, including North American flat-rolled and
tubular as well as European operations, and will also direct financial
analysis activities. Zovko joined the company in 1983 as a management
associate in the accounting and finance department at its Mon Valley Works
near Pittsburgh. During the next 14 years, he progressed through a series
of increasingly responsible positions in corporate audit and accounting
before being named controller for Mon Valley Works' Clairton Plant in 1997.

    Zovko moved back to headquarters in 1998 to serve as manager-financial
analysis, and one year later, he was named controller for the entire Mon
Valley Works. In 2002, he returned to headquarters when he advanced to
assistant controller-operations accounting & financial analysis. He has
served as controller-flat-rolled products & assistant corporate controller
since November 2007.

    Zovko, a native of Pittsburgh, earned a bachelor's degree in accounting
from The Pennsylvania State University in 1983, a master's degree in
business administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988, and a
master's degree in tax administration from Duquesne University in 1998. He
is also a Certified Public Accountant.

    Zovko will continue to work from U. S. Steel's corporate headquarters.
