SACRAMENTO, Calif., May 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp
(NYSE: GY) company, today shipped its 10,000th fire suppression system for
the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (CVPI) -- reaching a significant
milestone for this safety system. The Ford fire suppression system is
designed to reduce the risk of injury in high-energy rear impacts by
deploying a foam concentrate in less than 200 milliseconds that suppresses
the spread of fire or potentially extinguishes it. By doing so, occupants
are afforded more time to either escape or be removed from a crashed
vehicle.
Ford contracted with Aerojet to adapt technology for the CVPI
originally developed and tested for military ground vehicles. The system
uses advanced electronics and on-board sensors to measure post-impact
vehicle movements to determine the optimal time for deployment of Aerojet's
fast acting, environmentally friendly fire suppressors. The system is
integrated into the CVPI's structure and electrical architecture. "This
delivery milestone reflects Aerojet's commitment to increasing the safety
of the police community with this important fire suppression technology,"
said Aerojet President Scott Neish.
