Raytheon Wins DoD Mentor-Protege Award

ARLINGTON, Va., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Defense
(DoD) has named Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) and one of its protege
companies as winners of the Nunn-Perry Award for small disadvantaged business
mentoring.
Raytheon's Imagery & Geospatial Systems (IGS) of Garland, Texas, a unit of
the company's Command, Control, Communication and Information (C3I) Systems,
was recognized for its efforts as mentor company for RS Information Systems,
Inc. (RSIS) of McLean, Va., a small disadvantaged business (SDB). Founded in
1992, RSIS provides advanced technical and business solutions to government
and commercial clients.
RSIS and Florida International University (FIU) nominated Raytheon for the
Nunn-Perry Award in recognition of the company's highly successful mentor-
protege partnership.
Air Force Mentor-Protege Program Manager Janie Campos said, "I wish to
provide my wholehearted endorsement of RSIS and FIU's combined nomination of
Raytheon for the Nunn-Perry Award." Campos said that this mentor-protege
agreement has resulted in phenomenal growth for RSIS and has fostered a unique
long-term, three-way relationship among Raytheon, RSIS and FIU.
The purposes of the DoD Mentor-Protege Program are to assist SDBs in
enhancing their capabilities as subcontractors, to increase the overall
participation of SDBs as subcontractors and suppliers on DoD and other federal
agency contracts, and to foster long-term business relationships between SDBs
and contractors.
Raytheon's IGS is providing technical assistance to RSIS in its effort to
attain Software Engineering Institute/Capability Maturity Model (SEI/CMM)
Level 2 assessment and accreditation. RSIS' SEI/CMM Level 2 status would place
the company in a highly favorable position for capturing major new software
development contracts. This accreditation process also fulfills RSIS' primary
mission -- to become one of the premier African-American-owned information
technology companies in the country. RSIS is applying SEI/CMM processes and
procedures on its 40-person applications development contract at the Office of
Naval Research in Virginia.
The Raytheon IGS/RSIS team includes FIU, a minority institution, and
Prairie View A&M, a historically black college and university, which provided
training and material to RSIS.
"The prestigious Nunn-Perry Award is reserved for Mentor-Protege teams
which have excelled at achieving all objectives of this program," said Mike
Keebaugh, vice president and general manager of IGS. "An effective Mentor-
Protege/Small Business Program isn't done just to satisfy a government
requirement; it is done because it is good business and creates a competitive
advantage that favorably impacts all of our business pursuits. I am excited
that Raytheon IGS has been recognized for this outstanding achievement."
