ST. MAARTEN, Netherlands Antilles, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon
Company's (NYSE: RTNA, RTNB) AutoTrac Air Traffic Management System Phase 1
successfully completed four months of operational use following its December
1999 commissioning at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA). The
contract for the Phase 1 total air traffic management system required the
replacement of an existing flight plan processing system.
The Phase 1 AutoTrac system installed at the PJIA consists of multiple
flight data controller positions, a fully redundant flight data processing
capability and support positions. Flight data, provided by an aeronautical
fixed telecommunications network switch, is processed by the system to
generate flight progress strips for air traffic controllers. In the second
phase, the AutoTrac system will be upgraded with dual radar data processors
and radar displays as well as the installation of one solid state, digital
primary surveillance radar and one Mode S upgradable, mono-pulse, secondary
radar.
The Phase 1 program required the installation of a fully operational
system in less than six months following contract award. PJIA transitioned the
system on schedule to full operations on December 30, 1999.
Raytheon's AutoTrac system is an off-the-shelf air traffic management
solution designed to meet the needs of towers, approach facilities and small
to mid-size area control centers. More than 250 operational AutoTrac positions
have been installed worldwide.
Frank Marchilena, president of Raytheon's Command, Control, Communication
and Information Systems, said, "St. Maarten will benefit from receiving a
modern, sophisticated, Y2K compliant air traffic management system with more
functionality for flight data processing. Our thrust is to offer modern,
field-proven air traffic management systems." Raytheon's systems have been
selected by Caribbean aviation authorities in Jamaica, Curacao, Trinidad and
Barbados. Raytheon has installed state-of-the-art air traffic management
systems in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Guatemala, Holland, the UK, Germany,
