IDC Study Shows How Software Development Teams Benefit From Rational ClearCase
LEXINGTON, Mass., May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL),
the e-development company(TM), today announced it has helped BindView
Development Corporation (Nasdaq: BVEW) significantly reduce its software
development lifecycles and achieve gains in productivity, revenue and
customer-support quality. With the implementation of Rational ClearCase(R),
the market-leading software configuration management (SCM) solution, BindView
will experience an estimated 2,000 percent return on investment (ROI), over

According to IDC, BindView is the worldwide 1999 market share leader in
Vulnerability Assessment software, providing security management solutions for
operating systems, directories, networks and applications. BindView's
previous IT environment included two SCM tools, both with limitations that
caused significant inefficiencies in the software development lifecycle. In
addition, BindView's SCM tools could not accommodate development teams
distributed throughout several time zones. The company needed a solution that
would streamline the entire development process.
BindView recognized it was time to implement an easy-to-use SCM solution
with parallel development, merging, tracking and reporting capabilities,
coupled with the ability to support automated builds and integrate with
programming language environments, specifically C++. BindView determined that
Rational ClearCase matched the weighted criteria they had set to address its
development and business needs.

the implementation. Data was collected and extrapolated over a three-year
period from 1999 to 2001 in order to determine BindView's total net
quantifiable benefit of $12.1 million. In addition to the significant revenue
