PHILADELPHIA, May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- "Religion/Spirituality and Health:
History, Relationships, and Clinical Application" will be the title of a
presentation by Dr. Harold G. Koenig at a June 5 meeting of the American
Medical Writers Association (AMWA), Delaware Valley Chapter.
The dinner meeting will be held starting at 6:15 pm, with a networking
session at 5:30 pm at the Sheraton Bucks County Hotel, 400 Oxford Valley Road,
Langhorne, PA. Dr. Koenig's presentation is sponsored by the John Templeton
Foundation.
Dr. Koenig, is director and founder of the Center for the study of
Religion/Spirituality and Health at Duke University, North Carolina. His work
was recently featured as the cover story on the May 2001 Readers Digest. He
has published extensively in the fields of mental health, geriatrics and
religion and has authored 14 books on religion/spirituality and health, most
recently "The Healing Power of Faith: Science Explores Medicine's Last Great
Frontier" (Simon & Schuster, 1999; 2001 paperback), "The Healing Connection,
The Handbook of Religion and Health: A Century of Research Reviewed" (Oxford
University Press, 2001), and "The Link between Religion and Health:
Psychoneuroimmunology and the Faith Factor" (forthcoming).
Dr. Koenig completed his undergraduate education at Stanford University,
his medical school training at the University of California at San Francisco
and his geriatric medicine, psychiatry and biostatistics training at Duke
University Medical Center. He recently assumed the position of
editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine. His
research on religion, health and ethical issues in medicine has been featured
on national and international radio and TV news programs and Koenig has been
highlighted in Reader's Digest, Prevention Magazine, McCalls and other popular
national periodicals.
His professional awards include: the 1999 nomination for the King Faisal
International Award; the 1993 and 1999 National Institute of Mental Health R01
Research Award (5-year award); the 1998-99 Nomination for the Templeton Prize
in Religion; and the 1996-1999 Templeton Exemplary Papers Awards.
