Aware Launches StratiPHY3 for New ITU VDSL2 Standard

       Industry's first standard-compliant end-to-end VDSL2 CO and CPE
                        intellectual property offering

BEDFORD, Mass., May 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aware, Inc.
(Nasdaq: AWRE), a worldwide leader and innovator of broadband intellectual
property, today announced availability of the StratiPHY3(TM) high-performance
platform specifically designed for the recently consented VDSL2 standard.
StratiPHY3 is a complete physical instantiation of Aware's DSL intellectual
property in the form of a single digital chip and can be software configured
to operate in central office (CO) or customer premise equipment (CPE). It
supports all ADSL, ADSL2/2+, VDSL and VDSL2 features and functionality,
including long-reach VDSL2 mode, and is the latest addition to the StratiPHY
line of fully functional, manufacturable silicon intellectual property (IP)
offerings from Aware.
"DSL has become an essential and ubiquitous interface for broadband access
equipment. StratiPHY3 is ideally positioned to allow silicon providers to
combine Aware's IP with the strength and diversity of their existing silicon
product offerings to dramatically expand their market and revenue
opportunities, drastically reduce time-to-market with standard-compliant VDSL2
chips, and create entirely new market opportunities, such as triple-play, that
traditional chipset providers cannot address," said Luke Smithwick, Aware's
vice president of business development. "Building on the success of our
StratiPHY2+ CPE solution, which has shipped more than one million ADSL2+ ports
worldwide, Aware's StratiPHY3 is the industry's most advanced solution for
silicon manufacturers looking to interoperate with legacy ADSL, ADSL2/2+ while
also supporting new VDSL2 deployments."
"With the ratification of the ITU standard, carriers can confidently
deploy standards-based and interoperable equipment. We believe this will fuel
the deployment of VDSL2 products which we project to grow exponentially,
reaching an estimated penetration of 20% -- or 53 million subscribers -- by
2009," said Matt Davis, Yankee Group director of the Broadband Access
Technologies Decision Service. "The interest in this standard has peaked
recently because of the emergence of new network architectures involving deep
fiber feeds and the coming of age of IP TV services. We believe VDSL2 as well
as ADSL2+ and Bonded ADSL2+ will meet the demands of the industry to deploy
these revenue generating services and will propel a new wave of DSL growth."

    StratiPHY3-based Products
Aware's StratiPHY3 is the DSL engine in the recently announced Infineon
Technologies VINAX(TM) central office and customer premises chipsets. VINAX
is the latest in a series of Aware/Infineon products and is fully compliant
with all service profiles and regional specific VDSL2 requirements as well as
with ADSL/2/2+.

    About VDSL2
VDSL2 (G.993.2) was consented by the ITU in May 2005 and is designed to
increase both rate and reach over the copper network. VDSL2 supports three
primary modes: Long Reach VDSL2 (LR-VDSL2) for data rates in excess of 25Mbps
at 5 Kft; Symmetrical VDSL2, which is capable of 100 Mbps over loops less than
1Kft; and VDSL2-DMT for 50 Mbps+ at 1Kft. The new VDSL2 standard includes
many of the features and functionality contained in the ADSL2+ standard,
including advanced diagnostics, and maximizes the use of bandwidth and bit
rate, making it an ideal access technology for delivering video.
StratiPHY3 will be showcased next week in Aware's booth (#14046) at
SuperComm 2005, June 7 - 9, 2005 in Chicago. For more information on
