Marston to Lead SonoPrep(R) Product Launch
FRANKLIN, Mass., June 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sontra Medical
Corporation (Nasdaq SC: SONT) announced today that Barry D. Marston has joined
the Company as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In this new position,
Mr. Marston will be responsible for commercializing Sontra's transdermal drug
delivery and diagnostic products including Sontra's ultrasonic SonoPrep skin
permeation device and topical lidocaine kit for rapid skin anesthesia which is
expected to be launched in the third quarter 2004, pending FDA 510(k)
marketing clearance.
Mr. Marston has over eighteen years of sales, marketing and business
development experience in the medical device industry and has a proven track
record of successfully introducing new medical technologies and expanding
sales. Most recently, Mr. Marston was Director of Marketing and Business
Development at Lifecore Biomedical. Prior to that role, Mr. Marston obtained
diverse medical device experience working in senior management positions for
Boston Scientific, Medex, Ethicon Endo-Surgery and UltraCision.
"We are delighted to have Barry Marston join Sontra to head up sales and
marketing as we prepare to launch our first product," stated Thomas W.
Davison, PhD, Sontra's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Barry is a very
energetic and innovative leader who possesses strong industry knowledge and
contacts, particularly in the intravenous therapy market which will help
facilitate the commercial launch of our SonoPrep device and topical lidocaine
kit."
In February 2004, the FDA granted Sontra its first 510(k) marketing
clearance for SonoPrep for use in electrophysiology applications and in March
2004 the Company submitted a 510(k) application seeking marketing clearance
for the use of SonoPrep and a topical lidocaine procedure tray to achieve
rapid skin anesthesia. This 510(k) application was supported by clinical data
from three studies covering 500 patients that demonstrated rapid skin
anesthesia with 4% lidocaine was achieved within five minutes following a skin
pre-treatment with SonoPrep. Existing topical lidocaine products addressing
this $100 million market require a thirty to sixty minute waiting period
before skin anesthesia is achieved.
