Motorola Enables Next-Generation Multimedia Applications Over Cable With New BSR 64000 Software Release 4.1

  This Powerful Software Update to Motorola's CMTS Platform Delivers Greater
     Network Performance While Enabling Virtual Private Networking, Video
          Conferencing, Gaming, and Commercial Service Applications

    HORSHAM, Pa., June 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT)
today announced that the company has released software version 4.1 for the
Motorola Broadband Services Router 64000 (BSR 64000) CMTS/Edge Router.  The
largest release of features for the BSR product line, this software will
enable cable operators to seamlessly deliver voice, video, and data
applications to their customers.
    Cable operators will benefit from support in software release 4.1 for
tripled upstream bandwidth, advanced spectrum management, virtual private
networking, and dynamic voice and data traffic balancing. The software release
also adds support in the Motorola BSR 64000 for PacketCable(TM) Multimedia
services within DOCSIS(R) 2.0, a qualification received from CableLabs(R) in
the recently completed Certification Wave 34.
    Part of Motorola's suite of next-generation IP solutions for the cable
industry, the Motorola BSR 64000 is a proven cable modem termination system
(CMTS) providing IP services for cable operators around the globe.

    Features of the Motorola BSR 64000 software release 4.1 include:

    -- DOCSIS(R)/EuroDOCSIS 2.0 Support - Includes support for both A-TDMA and
       S-CDMA with logical channels, and provides up to three times the
       upstream bandwidth for increased delivery of high-speed commercial
       services.

    -- 2:8 Advanced Spectrum Management with 9th Receiver - Enables operators
       to better manage their RF network, potentially reducing maintenance
       costs and improving service uptime.

    -- Operator-Defined MAC Domains - Creates the ability to configure
       upstream and downstream channel combinations to help meet new service
       requirements.

    -- Dynamic Upstream and Downstream Load Balancing - Allows operators to
       more efficiently utilize bandwidth and serve larger populations of
       voice and data customers.

    -- DOCSIS(R) Set-Top Gateway Support- Simplifies control of video networks
       by allowing operators to control set-tops using an embedded cable
       modem.

    -- PacketCable Multimedia Support - Enables operators to offer new
       services such as video telephony and gaming with the required quality
       of service (QoS) to enable high-quality service.

    -- BGP/MPLS Virtual Private Network (VPN) Support - Gives operators a
       cost-effective solution for providing commercial customers with secure
       virtual private networks that connect multiple locations with the high
       bandwidth and QoS required.

release 4.1 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, Booth #6086, 14-17 June 2005 at the Henry
B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio, TX.
