Main Street Now Leads to Wall Street: Americans Invest for the Long Haul, According to New CBS MarketWatch Poll

SAN FRANCISCO, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Most Americans say they are now
investing in securities for long-term goals, not for quick profits, according
to a CBS.MarketWatch.com poll released today. Though they are worried about
the worsening Asian monetary crisis, U.S. investors are confident in the
long-term status of their financial holdings.
On CBS Evening News tonight and on the CBS.MarketWatch.com website, survey
reports, based on information gathered from 1,080 adults polled by CBS News,
help explain why the values of Wall Street securities have soared in recent
years.
In related coverage throughout the week, CBS.MarketWatch.com explores the
inner world of finance in its Best of Wall Street series, reporting on which
firms and people are really influencing investment activity. Who are the top
analysts? Who makes the big deals happen? Who are the best investment
strategists in the business?
"I could not think of a more important time to take a good long look at
who is running Wall Street," said CBS.MarketWatch.com Chief Executive Officer
Larry Kramer. "What we see is that more people are investing more of their
life savings than ever before in various securities and probably know less
about those securities than ever."
"This is another excellent example of how CBS.marketwatch.com is helping
individual investors make intelligent choices about financial information. We
are doing everything possible to help individual investors make smarter
investment decisions," said cbs.marketwatch.com Chairman, Derek Reisfield.
CBS MarketWatch's Best of Wall Street series provides a "who's who" of
those who most influence share prices among different industry groups. For
example, the CBS MarketWatch Tech 25 highlights the 25 people or media outlets
that carry the most weight among high-flying technology shares. For
individual investors, the series provides a lay of the land in the often
perplexing world of securities analysis, not immediately available to the
non-professional.
Other highlights in this week's series include interviews with leading
market strategists and the stock market forecasts that made them "leading
strategists"; interviews with several semiconductor, computer and media
analysts who regularly influence the price of the stocks they track; and a
bonus interview with a leading technology hedge fund manager.
